It's so random, and hilarious, in the same way conversations always were among my uncles in the Midwest. Rare to find a podcast that's so well researched, so aware of current social issues, particularly race and gender, and so freaking hilarious at the same time. Any Midwesterner will recognize why histrionic works so well together.

So, I loved most of this book. But there were tines when I wanted to slap some sense into Lana. I swear she took the most unlikely, most negative point of view that could be found when confronting any issue that comes up. and she does nothing to help herself. She's immature, self absorbed, and incredibly one dimensional as a character. She has no resilience, no grit, no tough side. Overall, I found this to be very frustrating.

Insightful. A Must Read For Suburban Americans.

Tells a lot of truths and offers insightful analysis that will be a hard challenge for most white Americana to accept about the drug wars. It barely touches on why it is that black Americans are the ones who face most poverty here in America, and while I feel the book could be improved by this inclusion, I also understand most suburban and rural white people's knee-jerk defensive reaction to any type of assertion, regardless of how factual, that they have had advantages that black people have not, and that those advantages are based in the institutions that control the power structure of this country. A hugely insightful read. Empathy is a powerful tool, and books like these can only help build bridges. Fear of empathy and fear of recognizing one's own shortcomings is the only reason I can see that would stop someone from reading this. It's worth the time and emotional energy.

Mind opening, in ways you wouldn't expect. Powerful, if you just let yourself listen without setting your own beliefs as more important than what the author is trying to say. Beautiful message about who Jesus was, and what he was to those who loved him.

The narration production quality could be better, as some reviewers have mentioned. But I can promise any reader, this is a cult serial killer story that makes the Manson murders look like child's play - and remember, they killed a pregnant Hollywood actress and wrote on her wall with her blood. The level of manipulation and control this woman was able to exert upon her people - who were not even living in an isolated compound, as most cults do, remember - is simply astounding. It opens up the terrifying possibilities of what becomes possible with a sociopath of well above average intelligence, coupled with today's technology. That particular question isn't necessarily the point of why this book was written, but this book shows us one answer to that question. And holy hell is it terrifying.

I loved everything about this story. It's engaging, it's real, it drew me in, and I felt like I knew the characters by the end of it, when I came to tears - which never happens to me. The pictures are so beautifully drawn by the story, the characters so real, the lessons so relevant. I can't think of anyone who would not enjoy this timeless, beautifully written story.

OKAY. It's really hard for me to be able to review the content when I literally can't remember it. The reader for this sounds like my fourth grade teacher - a nun - who is so uncomfortable reading what's in front of her that she literally disengages from it completely. This woman is reading words on a page, nothing more. Complete monotone, and a shrill-ish one at that. Also, does anyone else sense an element of Google Translate fails in this? Because seriously, whoever translated this failed.
