Pros: - Action, action, and more action!
- The characters are also pretty good and really grow on you in ways you don't expect.

Cons: - My only real complaint is the story really jumps around a lot. Not at all what I was expecting, but the quality was all there nontheless.

(Spoilers Ahead!) The book starts out as the story of a noble boy who had his entire family tragically taken away from him, and the tail end of 20 years of training for revenge.
The middle of the story is that same person being transported to a strange world in which other humans also from a different realm travel to, in order to brutally slaughter dungeon mobs and play hero.
The tail end of the story I believe is what the series actually intends to be about; a character running their own deamonic dungeon, but being generally less deamonic than the "Good guys" about it.

Scott Westerfield out did himself again! If you loved the world of his Uglies series, but want more action, espionage, and characters to fall in love with, this book is for you! Its read time is a bit shorter than the more average 10 hour audiobooks coming out, but Scott more than makes up for it with sheer quality of writing. He leaves no fluff at all on any page!

Honestly I was expecting something else from the Publishers Summary and the sample clip. I should have read some of the reviews which better illustrate what the book is actually about, but I was in a hurry and needed something to listen to for a prolonged period of time. So in that regard you're already doing better than me. I was hoping for more moral ambiguities in a book, and less Akubar's Princess Trainer the game in medieval Europe. The book is basically about a, not terrible, but pretty douchey guy that gets granted what amounts to all the power in the world over a variety of women, and instead of straight up raping them he slowly bends and breaks their moral compass until they want him to... Yep, enjoy.

Pros:
- Solid, likeable characters.
- Realistic sci-fi premise.
- Longer read.
- Has it's moments, especially toward the beginning and end.
And my favorite part of the book - The main character fails at what they're trying to do almost as much as they succeed. (They still get a lot of things handed to them on a silver ship though...)
- No romance. (This is a personal preference.)

Cons:
- Author spends much more time then they should explaining mundane things, and setting up characters and scenarios. Although they're well thought out and realistic, easily half the book is just this... For what it's worth, they kind of pan out overall.

I was a little apprehensive about buying this book after seeing the inordinately long play time of 20 hours. But just so you know, although there are definitely some dips in quality of content, (specifically during a few long winded, drawn out, and overly dramatic speeches between characters,) overall the story and characters are well thought out, the setting is more logical as opposed to straight up "magical," and entertaining all the way through. I'd highly reccomend this book considering the sheer amount of content it contains. But even ignoring the large quantity of content, I still think it deserves a solid reccomendation. Definitely worth the price.

Fun and entertaining characters, but horribly cliche story. The main character starts out as a slave, and then basically has the world handed to her on a silver platter. At least she's entertaining about it. A decent time sink if you have nothing else to listen to.
