Historia
A veteran of the Iraq war is appointed undersecretary of defense in order to penetrate a secret government purposely black-shelving zero-point energy, a clean, abundant energy source reverse-engineered from downed UFOs. Steve Alten's Undisclosed is a mind-opening thriller of "faction" that incorporates testimonials from military and intelligence personnel who were actual eyewitnesses and participants involved in the greatest secret in history.

thoroughly enjoyable
Revisado: 12-20-21
Very well thought out, entertaining plot.
Large emphasis on details.
Both times I listened to it, it kept me fully engaged.
A warning.
It often comes off as very preachy.
The author drills and repeats certain ideas periodically in a way that feels evangelistic. His lines of logic are rational and he works hard to provide evidence. It just pushes the story away from entertaining fiction towards a platform to spread worldview and ideology.
I respect the author and applaud his gumption and chutzpah to tell the story he needs to tell and what seems like a sincere desire to protect and provide for thou
who knows, maybe he's just playing a character to make it interesting. Probably not.

Historia
My name is Kvothe. You may have heard of me. So begins a tale told from his own point of view - a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man’s Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle, Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

decent, too much preaching
Revisado: 03-23-21
the author is very competent, the narrator's performance was great.
I really enjoyed the first book but I had a hard time getting through this book. The premise and plot were pretty good, nothing to complain about. The characters were pretty tiring though. It seemed like Jason spends the large majority of the journey being almost omniscient and being incredibly smug and contemptuous about it. Not that that's inherently a bad thing, that can be an interesting story. But paired with what feels like preaching was tiresome.
It seemed like the author had a lot to say about superstition and religious dogma, which could have been interesting conversations if he didn't set up so many strawman arguments. Felt like this book was a soapbox.
Good author.
Good narrator.
Felt a little too smug and very preachy for my taste.

This is a tale of sorrow, a tale of survival, a tale of one man's search for meaning in his universe, and how that search, and the indomitable will that drove it, gave birth to a legend.

Historia
Area X has been cut off from the rest of the continent for decades. Nature has reclaimed the last vestiges of human civilization. The first expedition returned with reports of a pristine, Edenic landscape; all the members of the second expedition committed suicide; the third expedition died in a hail of gunfire as its members turned on one another; the members of the eleventh expedition returned as shadows of their former selves, and within months of their return, all had died of aggressive cancer.

a great book that's not for everyone
Revisado: 02-11-21
If you're looking for a book with a clean, clear plot that ties everything up by the end you'll probably be disappointed. It leaves a lot to the imagination and is often confusing. Normally I would expect a lot of pretention or self importance from a book like this, but it felt genuine and I didn't feel talked down to, which I really appreciated.
I read a lot of reviews that were pretty negative towards the narrator (which almost turned me away from listening it). I thought she was competent. Nothing incredibly amazing, there were so weird pronunciations and other minor things but she was more than satisfactory.
Overall I found it engaging and am glad I listened to it
