Cute and funny

Altogether I loved the book and only wish there were a sequel only because I loved the characters and am wanting more. Have read only one other by this author and liked it so I'll look into more by her and what other works have this narrator.

Historia
What brought on the bad dream was, of all things, an old-time Buick. Sam Fogel wasn’t into vehicles, certainly not collectibles. The forty-two-year-old college professor leaned more toward chamber music and theater and poetry as diversions, not expensive, environment-wrecking technology. But over breakfast one spring Saturday, Janie looked up from the Meadow Hills Observer and pointed to an article, suggesting that he take the children to the fairgrounds to see the auto show.

Satisfying end to a short story
Revisado: 07-27-24
Story started a bit slow and as the ending approached, I felt underwhelmed and didn't see much to recommend. Since Matt have seen something coming but I sure didn't. I should have expected a shock due to Deaver's other work but I was still left shocked at the very end and could see this being expanded.

I do wish that the story had a little bit more because it is very very short compared to the actual novel. However, the performance kind of made up for it.

Full of potential but disappointing in the end.
Revisado: 03-27-24
The story itself was good overall, though a bit rushed with many pivotal moments missing. The narrators were great, in my opinion, and they really played their parts with full emotions. As noted by pretty much everyone, the story finished just as it should have started. Felt like it was a prequel short story.
I feel like there could have been even a short resolution but it's like the deadline hit and story was yanked away just when the next sentence was going to start. Alright for being free but disappointing unless you're killing time for no reason and don't mind being left hanging.

Great story, bad narration
Revisado: 09-21-22
TL;DR- Skip the audio and get the print copy.
The narrator had a very bad echo and it sounded like she was in the bathroom. On top of having a very bad echo, there was a lack of distinction in the characters' voices. These issues were so distracting and got on my nerves so much that I was highly tempted by the end of the first chapter to just call it quits. Since I don't like to leave books unfinished, I only finished after I got the ebook version. Very glad I did and now I look forward to getting the remaining books in the series, just not the audio version.

Beautiful and heartfelt
Revisado: 09-05-22
I fell in love with this series from book one and have just blown through the first 3, but this one really got to me and I had to take a moment to review and say it was beautiful. Although there were some laughs, I found myself in shock and then crying after a specific scene, which goes to show how memorable the characters have become through both the writing and narrating. Knowing this is not the last book in the series has me excited for the ending, yet sad that it's coming to an end. Highly recommend the entire series and I plan to get this author's other books.

Great narration, average story
Revisado: 06-28-22
I loved Ready Player One and expected more of the same with this follow up but came away just satisfied enough end not quite thrilled. The narration was great but I could just not connect with the characters and found some just enough annoying to tempt me and stop listening. Too much whining and complaining. The slow start did set my opinion back far back enough for the characters to need some major redemption. I kept going in hopes of the story to get better and ultimately did feel like it improved enough to not make it a complete waste my time.
I hardly ever find a book I don't enjoy but in this case I would not highly recommend this particular book. Felt as if they were trying to benefit from the greatness of the initial Ready Player One but failed to do so. In my opinion, not really worth an entire credit since I do not plan to repeat more than once, unless I forget my first experience or speed through the first half. If you don't mind a slow story then it is a just okay book. It does show you how a character you liked could become a hated character and come back around to make them an okay person but that is not really what I look for in a book.

Fantasy adventure
Revisado: 06-28-22
I love this author and even though this was a little different than her more well known novels, I enjoyed the story and narration. One of the main things I liked was that the romance storyline was important but did not take over the entire plot and was more of a tool to build the anticipation of a happy ending. The world in which the book was set was described well with just enough details to imagine the magical world and the dangers that could be encountered. There was just enough description to feel like you know all the necessary information. Just when you start to think there is no way to have a happy ending, something happens to bring a smile. It was a little open ended and I wish there was perhaps a sequel but in the end all the loose ends were tied and you come away with a satisfactory ending. Highly recommend this book and all of her other novels as well!

Short and cute YA novel
Revisado: 10-28-21
Our main character Caryn is a typical teen trying to fit in and make new friends at a new school but with the ability (and sometimes the complication) of seeing and hearing spirits. She just wants to not be the weird person and to catch the eye of the the cute boy that she wants to turn into more than just a friend. I enjoyed this story but you there is the typical teenage angst so sometimes the character seemed annoying. This was just perfect to describe the point of view of a teenage girl and so very appropriate. The narrator was the perfect voice for the character and I hope there a series is to as there is great potential to continue Caryn's adventures and the narrator would be a great pick to continue as Caryn.

Thrilling story with non-stop action
Revisado: 01-24-21
This story was not very long but it kept me engaged and looking forward to find out who was the mastermind behind it all. The beginning seemed to be a bit more of a thriller but it did contain quite some horrifying scenes torward the middle and end of the story. Some of the characters were quite deranged which only increased the level of horror. Highly recommend this story and this author in general.
