What is the nature of space and time? How do we fit within the universe? How does the universe fit within us? There's no better guide through these mind-expanding questions than acclaimed astrophysicist and best-selling author Neil deGrasse Tyson. But today, few of us have time to contemplate the cosmos. So Tyson brings the universe down to Earth succinctly and clearly, with sparkling wit, in digestible chapters consumable anytime and anywhere in your busy day.

THE COSMIC PERSPECTIVE...
Revisado: 06-23-23
A feast for the mind without becoming too rarefied. I was so pleased to reach the point near the end where the author plucked a thought from my mind: the idea that space travel and flag-waving do not mix. I've always believed that, for our own protection, that all exploration of other planets should be a international effort. If we cannot rise above our petty earthly squabbles and territorial selfishness, we will just carry them with us and transfer all our shortcomings to the cosmos. Then we will be wasting our time and money on a fruitless venture.

Historia
On the afternoon of September 8, 1900, 200-mile-per-hour winds and 15-foot waves slammed into Galveston, the prosperous and growing port city on Texas' Gulf Coast. By dawn the next day, when the storm had passed, the city that had existed just hours before was gone. Shattered, grief-stricken survivors emerged to witness a level of destruction never before seen: 8,000 corpses littered the streets and were buried under the massive wreckage.

A gripping, sad and illuminating tale
Revisado: 05-28-23
I enjoyed this book immensely, so much that it's 4:35 AM and I just finished it. Written with the factual voice of an experienced meteorologist, it expresses far more than atmospheric facts. I learned tremendous amount of information about the Great 1900 Hurricane that I thought I already knew all about. People like Clara Barton and Isaac Kline step out of the pages of the book and reveal themselves as human beings who are both flawed and brilliant. Most of all, Galveston, rising from the ashes in more ways than one, becomes an example of survival that is almost unbelieveable. Very exciting tale for the weather fan, the fan of politics in turbulent times, and a greatly recommended book for any devotee of Texas history.

Worst Narrator EVER
Revisado: 08-06-22
I nearly gave up on this thing after the introduction. Listening to it is like listening to a second grader reading a high school level research paper. Stilted and boring tone throughout. As for the book itself, you will get all the way to Chapter 7 before ANY mention is made about the actual activity. You still have not gotten to actual plant info or identification yet, mind you. You have just left the legal CYA stuff behind. I cannot comment on the book further than this, since after the first lines of Chapter 8 I could bear it no longer. My advice would be to hit your favorite bookstore and pick up a well written and illustrated foraging guide concerning your particular area. Calling this the "ultimate foraging guide" and claiming that you would need no other source to learn foraging should leave you screaming for the exit. No wonder it takes 6 chapters for the writer to feel legally out of hot water. SKIP THIS ONE ENTIRELY. That may save your life, if not your sanity.

This book explains so much.
Revisado: 07-22-22
Being the daughter-in-law of people who survived the blitzkrieg of eastern Europe in 1939, I can understand much of what became the character of Hannibal Lecter. I cannot conceive of what it felt like to experience it in person.
I feel thankful that this and its descendants are works of mostly fiction. Thomas Harris's magic gift for storytelling makes it feel real enough as it is.

Waste of life
Revisado: 10-27-21
I was just beginning Navy basic training in Orlando when Bundy invaded what would become my alma mater at FSU. When he first went to trial, I was serving on the other side of the world. Yet I have always taken this as personally as I think every young woman of the period did, especially those of us who lived on his blood-soaked trail from Washington to Florida. It so easily could have been any of us. This is the best written book I have ever read/heard on the subject.

Historia
Invite Hannibal Lecter into the palace of your mind and be invited into his mind palace in turn. Note the similarities in yours and his, the high vaulted chambers of your dreams, the shadowed halls, the locked storerooms where you dare not go, the scrap of half-forgotten music, the muffled cries from behind a wall. In one of the most eagerly anticipated literary events of the decade, Thomas Harris takes us once again into the mind of a killer, crafting a chilling portrait of insidiously evolving evil - a tour de force of psychological suspense.

Another brilliant novel by Thomas Harris
Revisado: 12-31-20
The movie of the same name with its hokey ending did not do justice to this book. Harris is a master storyteller and his character's come vividly to light under his guidance. Taken in the context of the entire story, especially if you also read "Hannibal Rising," the whole terrifying development of Hannibal Lecter becomes so much clearer. Clarice Starling becomes a more believable character in her own right, with the explanations provided by Dr. Lecter's exploration of her background directly from her mind. This book, following "Silence of the Lambs" and with the background of Lecter's early life in "Hannibal Rising," make Lecter's larger than life characterization, if not sympathetic, at least more believable. All told, the trio make up my favorite psychological thriller like no other.

When copywriter Victor Dean falls to his death on the stairs of Pym's Advertising Agency, everyone assumes it was an unfortunate accident. His replacement doesn't think so and begins asking a lot of questions. The new man is something of a mystery to his colleagues, and he certainly dresses well considering his meagre writer's salary.

If you liked this, you will LOVE the books
Revisado: 06-07-20
I have been a huge fan of Dorothy Sayers for many years, and was immensely happy to come across the audible version of this story. Of course, being under time restraints they could not dramatize the entire novel, though they did a tremendous job with the abbreviated version. Ian Carmichael was the first actor to portray Lord Peter on television, and I couldn't imagine anyone else in the role for this version. If you enjoyed this and other Audible versions from the series, you will LOVE the books, guaranteed.

This will never be just another Audible book
Revisado: 11-11-18
I picked this one out of desperation. Being a Navy retired vet who was battling depression before I joined the military, I just hoped it would be a momentary break from the pain. After listening to it, I feel like I have found a way to finally heal. This is going straight to my mental health team, and I am going to convince them to start a comedy boot camp at my clinic. Thank you, Audible. You are doing more than creating laughs with this one. You just might be saving lives. I will always be grateful.

Historia
Al Franken, Giant of the Senate is a book about an unlikely campaign that had an even more improbable ending: the closest outcome in history and an unprecedented eight-month recount saga, which is pretty funny in retrospect. It's a book about what happens when the nation's foremost progressive satirist gets a chance to serve in the United States Senate and, defying the low expectations of the pundit class, actually turns out to be good at it.
