Historia
Douglas W. Tallamy's first book, Bringing Nature Home, awakened thousands of individuals to an urgent situation: wildlife populations are in decline because the native plants they depend on are fast disappearing. His solution? Plant more natives. In this new book, Tallamy takes the next step and outlines his vision for a grassroots approach to conservation.

This is a very negative and depressing book!

Lots and lots of bad ecological information with not enough emphasis on positive solutions and how to do them.

Lots about ecology trees and insects
Revisado: 04-12-25
I liked hearing about the ecological reasons for planting trees and not killing bugs or raking leaves. Coming from Pennsylvania, a lot of the trees were familiar to me. I planted quite a few myself.
Some people might not appreciate the botanical names for all the plants or all of the scientific names of the insects. The author is a professor of entomology.

Historia
Coexisting but conflicting needs create self-sabotaging behaviors. This is why we resist efforts to change, often until they feel completely futile. But by extracting crucial insight from our most damaging habits, building emotional intelligence by better understanding our brains and bodies, releasing past experiences at a cellular level, and learning to act as our highest potential future selves, we can step out of our own way and into our potential.

Historia
Anyone who struggles with overeating knows what it’s like to feel out of control—and to feel the guilt attached to it. While ordinary anxiety feels like something that happens to us, the siren song of food cravings feels like something we should be able to control. The result is a toxic cocktail of shame and self-loathing that makes it impossible to change our behavior. The Hunger Habit is based on Judson Brewer’s deeply researched plan proven to help us understand what is going on in our brains so that we can heal the shame and overcome overeating.

Historia
The Water Is Wide is Pat Conroy’s extraordinary memoir based on his experience as one of two teachers in a two-room schoolhouse, working with children the world had pretty much forgotten. It was a year that changed his life, and one that introduced a group of poor Black children to a world they did not know existed.

Revisado: 09-08-24
The narrator was perfect for the story and location. Some of the language might be offensive to overly sensitive people regarding the treatment of black people. But it’s a true story and important to be told.

Not a good listen
Revisado: 08-15-24
I loved the “80 Dollar Champion “ and “The Ride of Her Life”. This is a history of the war with the Nazis. Very disturbing. Very sad. Many many horses lost, slaughtered and shot, or eaten. Much more history than horses.
