Historia
In the summer of 1922, Robert Shannon, a young American hero of the Great War, lands in Ireland. A Marine chaplain, he was present at the frightful Battle of Belleau Wood, and he still suffers from shell shock. His mentor hopes that a journey Robert had always wanted to make to find his family roots will restore his equilibrium and his vocation. But there is more to the story: On his return from the war, Robert Shannon witnessed startling and lethal corruption in the Archdiocese of Boston. As a consequence, he has also been sent to Ireland to secure his silence permanently.

Frank Delaney is a delight.

I was very quickly reminded of how much I love Frank Delaney’s writing. He has wonderful ways of expressing things. And although years of working for BBC has drummed the natural accent out of him, he can call it back authentically at will whenever necessary for various characters.

Historia
We tend to think of history as settled, set in stone, but American History Revised reveals a past that is filled with ironies, surprises, and misconceptions. Living abroad for 12 years gave author Seymour Morris Jr. the opportunity to view his country as an outsider and compelled him to examine American history from a fresh perspective. As Morris colorfully illustrates through the 200 historical vignettes that make up this book, much of our nation's past is quite different - and far more remarkable - than we thought.

I love American history and books that ask us to look at history differently. Many of the stories and snippets in this book were intriguing. HOWEVER, there are quite a few outright inaccuracies. So many that I don't know if I can trust any of what the author has written. And when I say "inaccuracies" I am not talking political slant or opinion. He gets facts wrong. The one that sticks out in my memory most is when he gets the year Hurricane Katrina hit wrong. But there were others too, and it just left me doubting the whole book.

Historia
The Supreme Court endorses terrorists' rights, flag burning, and importing foreign law. Is that in the Constitution? You're right: it's not. But these days the Constitution is no restraint on our out-of-control Supreme Court. The Court imperiously strikes down laws and imposes new ones purely on its own arbitrary whims. Even though liberals like John Kerry are repeatedly defeated at the polls, the majority on the allegedly "conservative" Supreme Court reflects their views and wields absolute power.

Wrong Wrong Wrong
Revisado: 05-14-05
Levin is so misguided. So called "Activist judges" don't take away freedoms of people, they protect them. What is taken away is the gov't.s ability to make laws restricting our freedoms. So it is the gov't.'s freedom that is limited. That is fine with me. What they may be taking away is a little security. But who was it that said "The man who would trade his liberty for security deserves neither."?
