Historia
Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she’s not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, two of the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture - by any means necessary.

Love this series. REALLY love the narrator.
Revisado: 03-12-25
I have enjoyed this series so far. I really need to get a shout out to the narrator, she does a great job pulling you into the story and keeping your focus. It never feels boring or monotone. Great book and great narration.

Historia
Manhattan Beach native Lovette has two rules in life. One: no surfing. Not after her brother's accident. Two: absolutely, no dating. And going into her junior year of high school, she's pretty happy with that arrangement. She has friends, her church youth group, and God to fall back on when things get dicey. But after Jake Evans walks into her life, following these two simple rules gets a lot more complicated.

FINALLY a Good Christian book that is Realistic!
Revisado: 01-21-25
I absolutely love this book. As a Christian woman who has grown up in the church and has had a lot of church hurt this book was written very well. I loved it so much I bought the physical copy to have on my bookshelf.
NOW, I do need to warn those of you who are SO again any sex or alcohol or drugs or anything of that matter that this book is not for you. Just move on. But if you are like me and and got hit hard with purity culture and told as a woman that sex is nasty and wrong and you can’t really talk about it. Then this book will be so refreshing. You will feel seen. You will roll your eyes, you will laugh, you will be reminded of some of the fun memories from youth group. You will get mad, and you will feel so glad that there is actually a christian book that is talking about real things and isn’t afraid to talk about them.
Here is my ONE and only Negative Comment: this is 100% a ripe off of “To all the boys I’ve loved before.” Like literally I could pull out a number of things that happened in this book that were verbatim from that other book/movie. I actually did some research to see which book came out first and this one was written later than the “to all the boys…” book. I was SO disappointed to learn this. It really put a bad taste in my mouth. I was so angry that I finally found a decent Christian book and author only to be disappointed that this was cut and pasted from another story. Now to be far, the story IS different. But there are a number of big points that are hard to ignore.
SPOILER ALERT:
1) the list of what they can and can’t do as bf/gf
2) being embarrassed at school - especially how this happened was almost exactly like the other book.
— I know there was a few more that I noticed but those two were exactly the same as the “to all the boys…” book. So because of that I want to give this book 3 stars for not being original, however, I know what it is so hard to find any realistic and raw Christian books out there that don’t suck. So I want this book to be recognized and get traction but PLEASE HEATHER, please come up with your own story and don’t copy and paste themes from other books. Make your own stories. Stay on the subject of church purity culture and how that really isn’t realistic and it is actually harmful. Keep talking about how the church doesn’t do a great job helping teens know how to manage their feelings and their bodies. Keep talking about real issues but don’t borrow themes from other big names books.
With that all being said, I still do love this book and I’m glad I got a physical copy. I am excited to let my kids read this one day and I think it will be a great book to talk to them about sex and sexuality and how teens grow up and struggle with so many issues. This is such a great book and I would recommend it to anyone…except those of you who think you are a better Christian than the rest of us.

Clean and GREAT story. Mystery and adventure!!!
Revisado: 01-21-25
It is SO hard to find clean books that have great story. I cannot wait to start book 2. If you like Nancy Drew computer games/books, or you like the mystery theme of the Outer Banks show, this will be a great read. Since I listened to it I will stay there is a TON of set up at the beginning but it will be worth it in the end.
What I mean by clean — I’m not afraid of cussing and things of that nature but I will say that I really hate how now all young adult fiction has become smut books. This doesn’t have smut but it does talk about relationships. There is a moment where some one bathing and they aren’t afraid to let their body be seen naked, but it is written extremely tasteful. That is what I want more authors to do. Again, I’m not afraid of some romance or some cussing, drinking, and such but I am so done with all the smut novels now days. I want to focus on the story and this book does exactly that. There is a perfect balance and I that is what I mean by clean.
I would recommend this book to teens and adults. Can’t wait to see this turn into a movie or tv series. It would be amazing to watch.
Other ideas this book reminds me of: knives out, Agatha Christie’s Poirot, and National Treasure 1&2.

Wonderful Narrator!!! Loved the book!!!
Revisado: 08-06-23
This was my favorite book in middle school/ high school. I was looking for some good audio books to listen to and I decided to see if this book was on audible. It was and so I purchased it. I loved the narrator. He did a great job reading the story and crating voices for the characters. It was a wonderful book exactly how I remembered it and I would highly recommend this book and the voice actor who read the book. Very well done. Now, can we get the rest of the series on audible please??? With this narrator? Thanks.

Better than the first book
Revisado: 11-18-21
My husband and I are reading/listening to CS Lewis’ space trilogy. We both are loving these audible books. Very well done. Personally I feel like this book was so much better than the last book (out of the silent planet). There’s so much to process and think through in this book. Highly recommend it.

Historia
As a boy, Dick Falkner ran away from abject poverty and an abusive alcoholic father. Sixteen years later, he finds himself hungry of body and empty of spirit in a Midwestern town. Although he finds no help in this so-called Christian town, he is eventually taken in by George Udell, a local publisher and kindhearted man. Through hard work and Christian morals, this man, who becomes known as "that printer of Udell’s", rises above his past to a new, inspiring life with God.

It is worth it!!!!
Revisado: 09-16-21
While hanging out with some friends talking about Christianity and how the church as a whole is corrupt and fake, one of my friends recommended this book. He mentioned that this book walks thru those same concerns and tries to address the issue of how the church ought to be. After finishing the book today I would have to agree. My favorite part in the book has to do with one man saying over and over “I wash my hands clean of this…I want nothing to do with it.” And then that man gets the best correct over, “yeah, you wash your hands clean. Just like Pilot washed his hands clean as he surrendered Jesus to be crucified!” (Keep in mind these are my words and not exactly the words from the book!). I wish I could have been in the book at the moment to have seen the face of the horrible Christian man. It is exactly how church members act and sometimes they, and even I, need a good slapping the face!
The reader for this Audio book is absolutely amazing! I felt like his different voices helped me visualize each character. I also felt like it helped the story flow smoothly without any bumps. I hate readers who are boring to listen to. It makes the story feel long and miserable. This reader was SO good!
I would recommend this to someone who wants to see how the church ought to treat others and how it should help society! I would also recommend this to someone who wants a good storyline that has good character development.
