In How to Release Anxiety, Gabby Bernstein offers simple, actionable steps for feeling better, living with more ease, and showing up for those around us. Historia
There may be no tidy solutions or pithy answers to life’s big challenges, but Michelle Obama believes that we can all locate and lean on a set of tools to help us better navigate change and remain steady within flux. In The Light We Carry, she opens a frank and honest dialogue with listeners, considering the questions many of us wrestle with: How do we build enduring and honest relationships? How can we discover strength and community inside our differences? What tools do we use to address feelings of self-doubt or helplessness? What do we do when it all starts to feel like too much?

I love her books
Revisado: 01-25-23
Her book is full of life lessons that mirror my own experiences and advice I might have wanted to write in a book of my own some day. But now I don’t need to. More people will read her books than would ever read mine, since she’s so famous. So glad this good advice is out there, from a person who is known, popular & appreciated.
She reads this book on the Audible platform. I have previously heard her read her book(s). Some of her sentences are choppy, or she pauses a bit between some words. I am not sure. It was a little distracting this time to me. It reminded me of Captain Kirk, played by William Shatner, who tries to be so dramatic and talk slowly and have pauses between words. So that was a bit distracting but not horribly so.
The book is exceptionally good, and I recommend it.

Historia
Heather McGhee’s specialty is the American economy—and the mystery of why it so often fails the American public. From the financial crisis of 2008 to rising student debt to collapsing public infrastructure, she found a root problem: racism in our politics and policymaking. But not just in the most obvious indignities for people of color. Racism has costs for white people, too. It is the common denominator of our most vexing public problems, the core dysfunction of our democracy and constitutive of the spiritual and moral crises that grip us all.

Historia
It's no secret that women today are juggling a lot. We now make up more than half the workforce in the United States and are busier than ever with partners, children, family and friends, often putting the needs of others ahead of our own. And if we feel overwhelmed by it all or fall short of perfection, many of us have learned to be our own worst critic rather than our own best friend. In Warrior Goddess Training, best-selling author HeatherAsh Amara provides the antidote to the flawed idea that you are not enough.

Historia
In recent years there have been major outbreaks of whooping cough among children in California, mumps in New York, and measles in Ohio's Amish country - despite the fact that these are all vaccine-preventable diseases. Although America is the most medically advanced place in the world, many people disregard modern medicine in favor of using their faith to fight life-threatening illnesses. In 21st-century America, how could this be happening?

A must read
Revisado: 05-24-16
This book is chock full of stories that most people I know probably have never heard of.
It is time for America to WAKE UP and realize that "Freedom of Religion" is ensuring that parents can do what they like, and kill their children in the name of religion. And this DENIES THE RIGHTS of the children to a life to live!
Parents who refuse medical care to their children in the name of religion need to be prosecuted! Please read this book.
I know our country was founded on the idea of "Freedom of Religion." What about the Right to Life by a child who needed protecting by their parents, teachers, church, family, community? They often can't speak up for themselves. We as a country need to speak up for the defenseless.
"Freedom of Religion" is NOT good enough alone.

Great book! Inconsistent Audio Quality
Revisado: 10-03-15
Would you listen to Minimalist Living: Decluttering for Joy, Health, and Creativity again? Why?
Would I listen again? No. Would I read it again? Definitely. In a different format.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Minimalist Living: Decluttering for Joy, Health, and Creativity?
I enjoyed the talking about gift giving seasons.
I also really enjoyed the brief story about the couple who had stacks of greeting cards that felt like "too much" to them, and their process for whittling it down to a manner that was more minimalist and worked FOR THEM.
What didn’t you like about MoMo’s performance?
There were awkward pauses. The sound quality would go in and out. Like, she would read a whole paragraph that I could hear just fine. Then a sentence or two would be at a completely different audio quality and I couldn't hear. Then it would go back to being just fine! It was completely distracting and I just couldn't hear chunks of the book.
I don't understand the strange ways she has for pausing. And it was so hard to hear, I truly struggled just to hear it. I had 2 other books I was going through from Audible.com this week also, and I had no troubles hearing those books at all. I finished all three books this week.
What’s an idea from the book that you will remember?
Whereas Marie Kondo's "KonMari" method is about getting down to what feels like 3 possessions (I'm exaggerating here of course), I feel like Minimalist Living says "do what feels right FOR YOU.I like how she acknowleges that we all have skills and talents and interests. I live in a place with all four seasons. I need hardy snow boots. I also need bathing suits and pool toys for my kids. We need tents and camping items, musical instruments, art supplies, and we do a bigger Halloween haunted house every year now that we have moved. Oh, and we need yard equipment. I like that she says something to the effect of: "maybe if you figure out which hobbies you really want, maybe you will purge less in those categories, but you don't need like 20 hobbies. ... just consider what is really the most important to you." I like this very reasonable approach.
I also love the idea of time with people is of much more value than time with our possessions. I am positive I have heard this before or in different ways, but somehow I actually grasped it this time from this book.
Any additional comments?
I hope that Audible.com will consider getting this book completely re-recorded. Perhaps read by the author. This subject matter is close to hear heart, and she will read it best, I am sure. Someone who is perhaps reading it cold is just not as "in to it" and doesn't have their heart or understanding in the matter. And they are so much more difficult to listen to because it doesn't feel genuine.
I will do my best never to get any future books read by this narrater.

With a career, a boyfriend, and a loving family, Piper Kerman barely resembles the reckless young woman who delivered a suitcase of drug money 10 years ago. But that past has caught up with her. Convicted and sentenced to 15 months at the infamous federal correctional facility in Danbury, Connecticut, the well-heeled Smith College alumna is now inmate #11187-424 - one of the millions of women who disappear "down the rabbit hole" of the American penal system.

Great book. Excellent.
Revisado: 06-08-15
Everyone should read this book and other books like it. True stories of people who have been or are incarcerated. Get educated about the U.S. Incarceration system. Work towards fixing the problems. The incarceration rate in our country is completely out of control. And the number of innocent people in jail and even on death row is horrifying.
This is a well written book. It's entertaining and interesting. A pleasant read. And now I can talk with the author on Twitter. That's great too.
I highly recommend this book.

Historia
Buddhism is all about training the mind, and boot camp is an ideal training method for this generation's short attention span. The chapters in this audiobook can be listened in any order, and are simple and easy to understand. Each story, inspirational quote, and teaching offers mindfulness-enhancing techniques that anyone can relate to. You don't need to be a Buddhist to find the Buddha's teachings motivational. As the Dalai Lama says, "Don't try to use what you learn from Buddhism to be a Buddhist; use it to be a better whatever-you-already-are."
