A Medical Marvel and Moral Meltdown
Revisado: 01-17-25
“Mother Knows Best” is another medical and scientific thriller by Peikoff that expertly delves into the complex emotional, familial, and romantic fallout out a groundbreaking medical achievement. The story’s antagonist makes choices which ultimately ruin her and nearly destroys those around her, yet she remains relatable through her simple motivations of seeking love, family, and success. Her actions not only endanger Claire’s life but also unravel the lives of everyone involved, including a brilliant yet ethically questionable fertility specialist, and Claire’s principled husband, Ethan.
Peikoff’s new brand of fiction never fails to disappoint. As near-future science fiction, “Mother Knows Best” opens up the genre to a much larger audience and introduces topics that are immediately relevant to public discourse.

My favorite quote of the book is from when Nacho explained convenience stores to the cross-humans:
“Free market capitalism! It drives innovation and intellectual advances faster than any other system.”

Visionary Dark Net Thriller
Revisado: 09-06-24
Kira Peikoff's “Baby X” is an undeniably creative, edge-of-your-seat near-future thriller that raises the timely philosophical issues of the trade-offs between genetic property rights, population health, and market freedom.
The story centers around ‘The Vault’, an underground platform that democratizes genetic health by allowing prospective parents to provide their children with superior genes—offering more than their own biology could. That ‘hidden lab’ element of the story is made it very enjoyable to read. “Baby X” raises complex questions of loyalty, ethics, DNM design, and the future of genetic health, wrapped in a fast-paced narrative. Another tension-fueled medical fiction masterpiece by Peikoff; hopefully with more on the horizon.

10 Years Ahead of its Time
Revisado: 03-31-24
I found myself captivated by Peikoff’s exploration of bioethics - which is highly relevant on the current discourse surrounding reproductive rights, especially in the wake of Roe v. Wade's repeal. As someone new to this bio-thriller genre, following my introduction through "No Time to Die," I was intrigued by Peikoff's narrative that intertwines personal autonomy with the looming shadow of governmental control over scientific research. The novel adeptly navigates these complex themes, making it both a gripping read and a poignant commentary on the fragility of personal freedoms. Comparing it to "No Time to Die," it's hard to pick a favorite; each offers a unique lens on the implications of scientific advancement on society, making "Living Proof" an essential, thought-provoking addition to my recent literary explorations.
Peikoff has truly sucked me into this type of literature. It’s much more intellectually stimulating than my normal LitRPG fare.

I didn’t expect to enjoy this nearly as much as I did! The plot was compelling and [mini spoiler alert] I loved reading about the setting of the network of hidden research facilities.

Is there a philosophy behind owning a pet? What was Ayn Rand like with her cats? Why is the death of a pet so devastating and how can you most enjoy them in life? Leonard Peikoff, foremost interpreter of Ayn Rand’s philosophy of Objectivism, answers these and other questions in this charming new book about pets. This absorbing book makes an amusing and thought-provoking compendium on pets from the world’s foremost Objectivists. In this collection of essays, Peikoff delves with insight, humor, and philosophy into the meaning of loving a pet.

I very much enjoyed this book. I always had a feeling that Leonard Peikoff was a closet dog-lover but I had never hear him speak on it at length and knew nothing of Ayn Rand’s cats. Objectivists get scarce little new content quote from the mouths of Objectivism’s parents, so this was a pleasant surprise. My compliments to the author.

This is one of a few series that seems to stay fresh with each new book. Here’s to sincerely hoping I find the next book in the series on Audible.
