most riveting listen, so sad to have it end
Revisado: 06-18-24
this book was wonderful! I was so sad to hear it end. I wish so much that it was a nofiction book that I could go find out more about the characters or that there was a second book with more of what happen at the end.
what a great book about how God is sovren, but yet we must make and live with our own choices.
it is a must read! My favorite book by this author so far!

stop trying to brainwash our kids
Revisado: 01-01-24
My family started listening to this series of books because it was something the whole family could listen to together. The first few books I enjoyed, but as they went on I got so tired of the unoriginal story line, repetitive word choices, and forced love story (which a late elementary/ middle shool book does not need.)
After a few books of the series I started to noticed the authors Liberal political leanings creeping into the books and striving to influence my children (book 6), but the main ranting was in the author's note after the book was over and I could easily skip having my kids listen to that part. I was now however put on to alert and started to see more and more how his political leanings influenced his writings. Nothing too over political or left-leaning until book 10 which was a total all out attempt at attacking conservatives in an undercover fashion, but it was one of his worst books and none of our family members enjoyed the plot. Though we finished the book because we were committed to the series, it was a chore.
When we heard of book 11 we were not very excited after the disaster 10 was, but gave it a shoot any way. Should have known better. Zoie is turned GAY! The scenarios that the characters are in are absolutely ridiculous! And surprise surprise Murray escapes for his imprisonment again, Ben and Erica's love affair is strained again, Grandpa is trusted as a leader, but is completely blind to the fact these are kids and he is operating on outdate & dangerous policies again, I could go on and on.... no character development except Ben is getting better at fighting finally.
We "deftly" turned this garbage off and will be returning it.
p.s. I went on the author's web page a few years ago. I read several blog posts and contacted him about a book question my kids had. He was rude, snipy, and very opinionated. I know many author's don't do well dealing with people, controlling the outcomes and opinions of characters instead of the free thinking of others is how they see the real world. This guy fits the bill. His writing success has made him even more arrogant and self-righteous than most liberals.
Don't trust your kids to this guy's writings.

enjoyable and unpredictable
Revisado: 05-22-23
The book was enjoyable and a great listen. the storyline was not predictable as the author had several layers to the main character.
Great info about the 1906 earthquake also. I enjoy this authors depictions of historical events.

Why is there indoctrination in EVERYTHING?
Revisado: 06-25-22
I am so tired of the LGBTLMNOP+×- movement being snuck into everything! This is a fun series, but we dropped it the second the author casually mentions a transgender 6th grader. Why mention that? If a kid did do that in the real world mentioning it like it did would be cruel to talk about it the way it was done.
Obviously it was done with an agenda of forcing the youth that are reading the book that the idea of transginderism is normal and ok.
It's not call gender confusion just because. A 6th grade child would only be 10 or 11 years old, that is much to young to make a decision that will make devastating changes to their body. If an adult wants to destroy their body they are of a maturity level to make that decision. A child is to receptive to brainwashing of the culture and this book is not helping a child contemplating such a momentous decision to make a level headed choice!

Gracie Reed is doing just fine. But when a mysterious SUV pulls up beside her, revealing Chinese cinema's golden couple Wei Fangli and Sam Yao, Gracie’s world is turned on its head. The famous actress has a proposition: Due to their uncanny resemblance, Fangli wants Gracie to be her stand-in.

couldn't make it passed the first few minutes
Revisado: 12-27-21
I tried this book because a reviewer said it was clean and recommended for all ages. I couldn't make it passed the first few minutes without being berated by 2 f-bombs! If this writer has to rely on cussing to get shock and emotion instead of using a creative writing ability I am not interested.
To bad because it sounded interesting...... funny how the main character is complaining about sexual abuse in the workplace and the write is abusing her readers with secual slurs.

Liked the idea of the story, but was tricked
Revisado: 12-27-21
Let me start by saying I enjoyed the plot of this book and with a few tweaks it would have been a pleasant listen. Being a busy mom I don't get a lot of time to do things just for myself so I try to listen to Audio books that are just for mommy once and a while (while folding laundry or cleaning the house). This is not an easy feat as there are always little ears near-by or a roar of noise. I am also always telling kids that they should be smart and creative to be able to express themselves with out resorting to curse words and dirty talk.
I know was gambling picking a romantic book to listen to considering my higher standards, but I figured I would be able figure out the author's intent a chapter or two in and stop listing if it got bad..... halfway through I was pleasantly surprised and really invested in the story. Then came words that would make a sailor blush and it was not even a "sexy" scene yet and it just got worse. The sex scenes were actually cleaner talk than a lot of the characters everyday conversations. But now I wanted to find out how this thing ended, so I trudged on suffering the abuse to my ears.
Then there was the voice that the female reader used for the main character's mother..... it completely ruined the personality of this character. The male voice (the book switches points of view between the two main characters) did a fantastic job and brought warmth and depth to her, so that made up for it. I wasn't fond of the female's voice for the male lead either, but it was no where near as bad. Sounds trivial I know, but it really did bring the experience down.
So this book is great until halfway through. I finished it and was not completely disappointed that I had listened, but it would have been a 4-5 star experience with a new female voice and a LOT less cussing!

family tradition
Revisado: 12-14-21
Our family reads this book every year as part of our Christmas celebration. This year, I didn’t have time to read it aloud, so we did it as an audio book in the car.
I thought the reader could have done a better job with cadence and dramatic pauses, but it was good overall. The kids, my husband, and I enjoyed hearing our beloved Christmas "Classic" through a new voice.
