Historia
Matthew Ferry presents his rapid enlightenment process inside his new book Quiet Mind Epic Life. Enlightenment is not a place. It’s not a destination. It’s a state. It’s a point of view. Enlightenment is a contextual framework that makes living an epic life possible. Let me give you my definition of enlightenment so you understand our end game together. Enlightenment is the recognition that the source of life within you is also the source of life in everyone and everything. We are all one thing expressing itself with infinite variety.

A Must Read for ANYONE wanting a Quiet Mind!!
- De Ken Rubman en 05-29-19
Entire premise based on junk science
Revisado: 01-20-21
Book bases much of its conclusions on the pseudoscience of applied kinesiology. If you don't buy into it, the book will be a waste of time.

Good information, but tainted by political bias.
Revisado: 08-07-15
What made the experience of listening to On Immunity the most enjoyable?
Plenty of information on inoculation and the history of vaccination.
What about Tamara Marston’s performance did you like?
Even inflection; pleasant voice
Any additional comments?
The author's extreme liberal bias comes through, which is distracting. Her lack of objectivity in historical and cultural matters makes you question how even-handed she was in her treatment of the information. For example, she seems to suggest that capitalism is unique in creating suffering among the powerless; she doesn't consider the suffering inflicted on tens (or hundreds) of millions by communism, fascism, etc. And her opinions on such matters are totally irrelevant to the main points in the book. Why include them? Otherwise, there seems to be a lot of good and useful information in this book which in many instances is well presented.

Historia
Alexandra Fuller tells the idiosyncratic story of her life growing up white in rural Rhodesia as it was becoming Zimbabwe. The daughter of hardworking, yet strikingly unconventional English-bred immigrants, Alexandra arrives in Africa at the tender age of two. She moves through life with a hardy resilience, even as a bloody war approaches. Narrator Lisette Lecat reads this remarkable memoir of a family clinging to a harsh landscape and the dying tenets of colonialism.

Where does Don't Let's Go to the Dogs Tonight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Near the top of all audio books I have listened to.
Have you listened to any of Lisette Lecat’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Lisette Lecat is truly outstanding. This is really a performance, not just a narration. I hesitate to recommend the text version because I don't know if I would have enjoyed it nearly as much as I did the audio version. I might have, but her reading was simply superb.

His knowledge of the people, culture, and language makes this a rare find. If you like the travel-history genre (like Kaplan's Balkan Ghosts) I think you will like this as well.

Thought provoking
Revisado: 07-05-10
I like Friedman's approach to history. He avoids the common trap that typical forecasters seem to fall into lately- That just because a trend is headed in a certain direction means that we can safely project where it will take us as if nothing will come along to alter that trend. He offers some interesting notions of things that will alter current trends.
He takes his vignettes a little too far in terms of detail, but he does apply the appropriate caveats. Great material for discussion and debate.

Historia
For decades, Fred Burton was a key figure in international counterterrorism and domestic spy craft. As a member of the State Department's Diplomatic Security Service in the mid 1980s, he was on the front lines of America's first campaign against terror. Now, in this hard-hitting memoir, Burton emerges from the shadows to reveal who he is, what he has accomplished, and the threats that lurk unseen except by an experienced, world-wise few. Told in a no-holds-barred, gripping, nuanced style, this behind-the scenes account of one counterterrorism agent's life and career is a riveting listen.

Long on cliches, short on action. Reads like a bad spy novel, except without the excitement. There are much better reads out there about our real spies- This book makes our DSS agents sound like a bunch of play-spies.

Historia
Author of the extremely popular "Dear Economist" column in Financial Times, Tim Harford reveals the economics behind everyday phenomena in this highly entertaining and informative book. Can a book about economics be fun to read? It can when Harford takes the reins, using his trademark wit to explain why it costs an arm and a leg to buy a cappuccino and why it's nearly impossible to purchase a decent used car.

Well worth it
Revisado: 04-24-10
Really enjoyed his discussion about markets, both their power and limits. Harford doesn't try to explain too much with his theories, and the conclusions he does draw are well supported. If you like books like Freakonomics, you will like this as well.
