Historia
Following Jane from her childhood as an orphan in Northern England through her experience as a governess at Thornfield Hall, Charlotte Brontë's Gothic classic is an early exploration of women's independence in the mid-19th century and the pervasive societal challenges women had to endure. At Thornfield, Jane meets the complex and mysterious Mr. Rochester, with whom she shares a complicated relationship that ultimately forces her to reconcile the conflicting passions of romantic love and religious piety.

Thandie Newton's narration is so spot on as to really make this story come alive. Her voice is easy to listen to as she inhabits all the characters and the scenery. So glad I chose this version.

Historia
In his wickedly brilliant first novel, Debut Dagger Award winner Alan Bradley introduces one of the most singular and engaging heroines in recent fiction: Eleven-year-old Flavia de Luce, an aspiring chemist with a passion for poison. It is the summer of 1950 - and a series of inexplicable events has struck Buckshaw, the decaying English mansion that Flavia’s family calls home. A dead bird is found on the doorstep, a postage stamp bizarrely pinned to its beak. Hours later, Flavia finds a man lying in the cucumber patch and watches him as he takes his dying breath.

Dee-lightful!
Revisado: 09-28-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
I would recommend this to anyone because it's a great little story, well-written, and masterfully narrated by the talented Jayne Entwistle.
What was one of the most memorable moments of The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie?
I loved the very last chapter, which is new for me. Mysteries usually are a let-down for me at the end. Not this one.
What does Jayne Entwistle bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She IS the voice of Flavia.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
No film. Don't spoil the magic of the book by making it into a movie.
Any additional comments?
Anyone reading my quick review -- don't miss this book. It's THAT good.

Saaaa-lute, Sgt. Reckless!
Revisado: 06-24-15
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes I would. The story is one that needs to told, shared, and never forgotten.
What other book might you compare Sgt. Reckless to and why?
I suppose I could "compare" with to other horse stories, but that's a little difficult to do because Reckless was absolutely a one-in-a-million little horse.
What about Susan Boyce’s performance did you like?
I liked her performance. A bit stiff at times where I would have read it with more emotion -- she reads it like a news story instead of a STORY. Overall a good performance.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I always liked when she joined the guys in the mess tent after a long hard day. She was "just" another soldier. What a horse.

A Perfect Read; A Perfect Listen
Revisado: 06-24-15
What made the experience of listening to Anne of Green Gables the most enjoyable?
It is obvious that Kate Burton loves the story of Anne with an "E". The story is wonderful to start with, and Kate's narration is the cream on top!
What other book might you compare Anne of Green Gables to and why?
For me, Anne of Green Gables is in a class all by itself. It sets the standard by which all the others are compared and will probably come up a little short.
What about Kate Burton’s performance did you like?
Everything -- the sound of her voice, the way she handles all the different characters' voices, her sincerity, and her love for the story itself. All of it.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Oh, wouldn't that have been nice, to have that kind of time. I listened to it while commuting to and from work. Made my drive so enjoyable.
Any additional comments?
Anne of Green Gables is a book I should have read as a young girl -- I would have loved it then and cannot believe it's take my whole life to finally get to it! Thank goodness. One of my favorite of all time. So good.

Joe, an ugly and unloved horse, trusts no one, and no one trusts him. Until Vicky. This is the story of a troubled horse and the little girl who loves him. Based on the true adventures of the author's childhood 50 years ago, Joe teaches the lesson that sometimes beauty is not skin deep, but heart deep. That the unloved have much to show us about the true nature of love.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 06-24-15
What made the experience of listening to Joe - the Horse Nobody Loved the most enjoyable?
I received the Audible version straight from the author. That in itself makes it special.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Of course, Vicky herself. I related to her so much with her love of animals, being a bit of a loner, and her determination.
What aspect of Dorothy Deavers’s performance would you have changed?
Although she has a very pleasant voice, I thought there were times when she sounded a little sleepy and when I read the same lines in the book, I didn't hear "sleepy" at all. She slurs her words sometimes and I had to stop and back up 30 seconds to hear the line again because I didn't understand her. But that was minor in an otherwise fine performance on her part.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Without spoiling the story for anyone, the final chapter had me crying so hard I couldn't see.
Any additional comments?
I love a good "animal story", and this one goes down on my list of favorites of all time. Wonderful book, highly recommended.

Mr. Horsley's reading was fantastic, with all his attention to the different voices and his emotion in the telling. He really brings the characters to life.

For me, it's Gus. I love his view of life all around. He is one of a kind. They don't make men like him anymore.

I Met Julie This Summer And This One Is My First
Revisado: 09-27-14
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys a fun murder mystery. After meeting Julie this summer, I thought this would be a fun book for my book club to read. And it was!
What other book might you compare Delivering Death to and why?
I cannot really compare as I don't normally read murder mysteries. This was a first for me.
Which scene was your favorite?
Ha! How can I write it without spoilers... let's see... there's a scene with a body trap. That's all I will say.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Extreme -- there is something that happens that is absolutely NOT what I expected in a thousand years! I had to stop and say to myself, 'Oh NO!' I did not cry, but plenty of humor throughout.
Any additional comments?
Julie was so kind to offer to skype with our book club about this book and it was a really fun evening. Thank you, Julie! Our most fun book club ever!
