Historia
To the wider world, Al Pacino exploded onto the scene like a supernova. He landed his first leading role, in The Panic in Needle Park, in 1971, and by 1975, he had starred in four movies—The Godfather and The Godfather Part II, Serpico, and Dog Day Afternoon—that were not just successes but landmarks in the history of film. Those performances became legendary and changed his life forever. Not since Marlon Brando and James Dean in the late 1950s had an actor landed in the culture with such force.

His Life
Revisado: 11-03-24
He laid his soul bare. He has had a wonderful life, and chose to share the triumphs and defeats. His loneliness struck me throughout the book. I never knew he had a paralyzed vocal cord later in his life, truly sad, but he never wants you to feel sorry for him. It struck me too, how such a young man who loved his friends dearly, was able to choose not to do the drugs that were killing them. I believe that his life, has been a life well lived. I enjoyed his book very much.

Historia
At the height of the Holocaust, 25 young inmates of the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp - mainly Jewish women and girls - were selected to design, cut, and sew beautiful fashions for elite Nazi women in a dedicated salon. It was work that they hoped would spare them from the gas chambers. This fashion workshop - called the Upper Tailoring Studio - was established by Hedwig Höss, the camp commandant’s wife, and patronized by the wives of SS guards and officers.

Horrors of Auschwitz
Revisado: 05-16-24
I like this book. It was painful and hard to listen to the atrocities that happened at the hands of the Germans. The horrors were laid bare, and should have been. My heart cries with all the Jewish people in the world.

Historia
This is the story of Prof. Shaul Harel, formerly Charlie Hilsberg, who lost his shadow in 1942 at only five years old, when he was separated from his family and surroundings and saved from the furnaces of Auschwitz by the Belgian resistance. This book reveals his story, from his time as a “hidden child” in France and Belgium during the Holocaust, through his experiences in orphanages, his immigration to Israel, the serious injury he sustained in his military service, and more.

Professor Shaul Harel’s Resilience
Revisado: 02-18-24
The most honest and humble memoir, chocked full of historical truths. He is a survivor, and hero not only in Israel but the world; particularly in the field of pediatric neurology but most notably as a child Holocaust survivor and devoted husband/family man!

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

More to the story….?
Revisado: 05-16-23
I believe Prince Harry actually has more to say, maybe another book…? In telling his story, one can reason that very possibly he has found his calling in life, that of storyteller and author. I listened with intense scrutiny, and found myself completely engrossed not only in his story, but the telling of that story. Also, intriguing to this reader/listener was the ease of him talking about his drug use, no shame, just a fact. I wish for him and his family peace, and a reprieve from the media.

Historia
The ideal lady wears lace, speaks quietly, and never - under any circumstances - fixes an automobile. But Gwyn Ruthers has never cared two snaps about being the ideal lady. With the war to end all wars exploding across the English Channel, she leaves behind her restrictive life as a chauffer's daughter to serve in an all-female ambulance unit in France. She's not about to let her social status or gender prevent her from serving her country. Not even a handsome captain can distract her from her mission. Most of the time.

Most annoying read
Revisado: 01-22-23
Narrator of this inept, sophomoric read was like listening to someone repeatedly tearing their fingernails down a chalkboard. The storyline was uninteresting from start to finish. I wish I had my time back from this book.

Devoured this book, and loved every minute of it!!! Alice was truly before her time, and lived abundantly. I was struck by her loneliness throughout her life, and truly empathized for her. She was brilliant, and so very well read. Politicians requested her advice for decisions that had to be made regarding America. I wish she could have been President! She would have run our country with ease. I highly recommend this book!

Riveting Listen
Revisado: 04-23-22
I am very happy that I read past the less than positive reviews of this book. I found it to be well written, and the narrative was read superbly. It was wrought with much sad, but true history and much personal suffering , in a world polarized by the hatred of the Jewish lineage, and another very small part of the world that offered help to them, at the very risk of their lives. There was also joy in the midst of this sadness, that made me agree with Walter, “we are all very much the same regardless of our race, there is good and evil, and then there are the people who rise above goodness to show supreme goodness at all costs.” Hettie was indeed a heroine, and expressed her views at a time in history, that was unheard of for women. I wish we could all truly be as selfless and good as Hettie and Walter.

Idly long and miserable
Revisado: 03-12-22
This is the most agonizing book that I have ever listened to. I wanted to stop listening to this overly long book, multiple times in hopes of it getting better in some regard. I made myself listen to the end, and that is something I will never do again. The book however did open my eyes to the injustices and maltreatment of their people. I am so thankful to be an American. Also, I did appreciate the author’s input to the book, at the bitter end.

Historia
Alicia Berenson’s life is seemingly perfect. A famous painter married to an in-demand fashion photographer, she lives in a grand house with big windows overlooking a park in one of London’s most desirable areas. One evening, her husband, Gabriel, returns home late from a fashion shoot, and Alicia shoots him five times in the face and then never speaks another word. Alicia’s refusal to talk, or give any kind of explanation, turns a domestic tragedy into something far grander, a mystery that captures the public imagination and casts Alicia into notoriety.

Excellent, hypnotic read
Revisado: 05-15-20
This book is absolutely incredible, stunning with every turn of the page. To say it is riveting, is an underestimation. The narrator’s voices held me captive, and the author took much time to write this thrilling masterpiece. I am sure that is what contributed to the excellence of this book! I highly recommend this book to the discerning reader.
