I don’t think proven facts are fiction

This is not BS spun into a factual narrative, this is a cohesive recounting of provable facts. Where there is room for opinion, the reader can decide to accept or reject it, but, unlike delusional Republican narratives about it’s political track record, this book sticks to historical facts backed by Congressional records, public political speeches and written material by the sources cited. All this in a storyline that is hard to put down.

A Woman of Great Importance

Virginia Hall’s heroic, nearly unbelievable story of courage, self sacrifice and strategic competence during WWII is finally told by Pernell. Virginia’s story stands above most other stories heralding the courageous acts by men fighting the Nazi’s in the European theater. Virginia’s successful career as a leader of French resistance fighters should have been rewarded and respected at the time or at least during her lifetime, but tragically, due to the narrow minded nature of the misogynistic U.S., British and French militaries, wasn’t. Finally Ms Pernell book tells Virginia’s story as it should be told.

Reading for Open Minded People

I think Hitchens is one of the most well informed and open minded intellectuals to debate subjects as different as Biblical scholarship to political philosophy in the past seventy years. Hitchens is always well informed and provides details that his audience can verify. I especially appreciate that most of his controversial opinions on subjects as vastly different as Bill Clinton and Mother Teresa are not for the sake of controversy, but for the sake of principle and truth. Hitchens was a truly great thinker who had a rare gift for clear and concise communication.

I’ll have More Sedaris Please

I thoroughly enjoy David Sedaris’s humorous take on the small but important moments that make up his not so typical days. I have all of his audiobooks and go back to them whenever I want to laugh. Happy Go Lucky is another book I will return to to lighten and brighten my day.
