Would you consider the audio edition of The Drop to be better than the print version?

Depending upon the reader, I enjoy listening to books rather than reading them. Len Cariou is the perfect voice for the Bosch series, and his dramatization skills make the books very enjoyable. Harry is like a real person to me because I have listened to all of the Bosch books and Harry has been brought to life.

What other book might you compare The Drop to and why?

I am a thriller/mystery buff and I choose books by author. The Drop is a very good book and no one will be disappointed to buy any one of Michael Connelly's series.

What does Len Cariou bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Len Cariou brings Harry Bosch to life. His skill in differentiating voices, reading as though people are having a real conversation, and doing all of it with clear diction without pretension, makes him a superior actor/reader. He's great.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Well, I try to listen as long as I can, but I want the book to last so I limit my listening time.

Any additional comments?

In my opinion, the reader can make or break a book, even a really good book. (Example: I love the Vince Flynn books. The producers ruined a couple of Flynn's books by having an amateur, flat-delivery reader do the job. Bah!) Usually, if I find a new author that seems promising, I buy the Kindle production first. I do this to test new authors through the Kindle read. If I like the book, I want to share it with my husband, so, I listen to the sample reading of the book, and if the reader suits my idea of what the book should sound like, then I order away! Once I find a good author, and the reader does a good job, then I order that author's series.

I love ever one of John Sanford's books.

What made the experience of listening to Buried Prey the most enjoyable?

This is typical Sandford: engrossing, sometimes funny, mostly intriguing, and a socko ending. Lucas Davenport is the most terrific protagonist of the genre.

What did you like best about this story?

The dialogue between Lucas Davenport and his fellow policemen.

What does Richard Ferrone bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Ferrone IS the voice of Lucas. He IS Lucas. You gotta love it!!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

I hope John Sandford continues to turn out the Prey series for as long as he can write and for as long as I can read..

Another Great Dick Francis Book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Enquiry to be better than the print version?

I cannot compare. These are two different uses/methods for reading a book. When I am alone I like to read the narration on my Kindle, but when my husband and I are sitting in the living room, we like to bring up the audio version so that we can enjoy the book together.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I rarely feel as though I am on the edge of my seat while reading, but I do find that I read faster and faster when the book has me in its grip.

Have you listened to any of Tony Britton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all of them. Britton is great whatever he reads.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No; but I enjoyed it very much.

Any additional comments?

I have written reviews of Francis' books before, and I always say that one cannot go wrong buying one of his books. They are all very, very good books. I have enjoyed every one of them, all of them, always.

You Can't Go Wrong With a Dick Francis Book

If you could sum up Proof in three words, what would they be?

Interesting and fun.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The protagonist is an ordinary man just trying to do the best he can. This depiction allows the reader to relate to his troubles, and to root for his eventual triumph..

Have you listened to any of Tony Britton’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have bought and listened to ALL of Dick Francis' books. Tony Britton is a great reader with the skill of differentiating the characters' voices, thus clarifying who's saying what. He's a terrific reader; and I love the English accent!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.

You can't go wrong buying a Dick Francis book. Every one of his stories is great.

All of Crais' books are great. Can't go wrong.

We love Cole and Pike and read everything Crais writes about their adventures. Now that Crais has decided to headline Pike in the latest books, we would only wish he would "humanize" Pike a little more. Cole is funny, self-deprecating, compassionate, but Cole can be ruthless, too. He's a well-rounded character. Pike seems to be a little too cold, removed, not as entertaining. Not to say that the book is not great; it is. I'd just like Pike to get a girlfirend or something that makes him more human.
Read the book. It's very entertaining.

Terrible narrator

This is a terrific book, as are all Vince Flynn books, but the narrator, Ken Kilban, hasn't a clue as to how to interpret the author's charactors so as to give us the sounds approriate to the story.
It is so disappointing. I read the book and enjoyed it enormously, then I waited a long time for the unabridged audio version to come out (I do not buy abridged books), and then the whole book was ruined by a rotten reader.
Kilban has been chosen to read "Executive Power" too. Bah! This means that I will not buy that one. What were the producers thinking? Don't they interview and listen to a reader before they hire him or her to do the book? Vince Flynn should be insulted by what the producers of this audio version have done to his great book.
Fooey!!

Mitch Rapp is the Man!

Anyone who enjoys the counter-terrorism story will enjoy every one of Vince Flynn's books. Flynn's protagonist, Mitch Rapp, is Jack Bauer times two. Every time Mitch takes out his trusty silenced pistol and lets the bad guy have it right between the eyes, one's heart swells with satisfaction at the justice of it all. Those of us who would never sanction such behavior in real life, can rejoice at the "40 million dollar federal killing machine" just wiping out the terrorists with a steely eye and steady hand. He's saving the world and we suffer no guilt whatever. The good part is that Flynn lets you know what Rapp is thinking and why he does what he does. You get to know Rapp the man, as well as Rapp the assassin. You'll love these books.
