Another breathtaking account of '96
Revisado: 01-18-17
Where does The Climb rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Together with Into Thin Air in my top 5.
What did you like best about this story?
I read Into Thin Air first and knew that John Krakauer's account differs from Anatoli Boukreev's account. When you only hear John's story it's likely you think Anatoli's actions on that day are at least somewhat questionable. I'm happy I now also heard Anatoli's side of the story. I do understand why John said what he said, because from his point of view it probably looked like Anatoli was acting in his own interest, but hearing from Anatoli why he did certain things makes me respect him a lot. There were no winners on that mountain and there is not one specific reason why the disaster took place. It was a series of unfortunate events and human error, and thanks to Anatoli some people that were about to die, lived. To me that makes him a hero.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely!
Any additional comments?
If you are interested in the events of Everest in '96 you really need to read The Climb and Into Thin Air. Since both books are personal accounts of the disaster both books tell a slightly different story. I think it's impossible for anyone to really get an understanding of what happened there, but to get somewhat of an idea you need to read both books.

Not finishing this book
Revisado: 05-25-16
Would you try another book from Patricia Highsmith and/or Bronson Pinchot?
No, I was really exited getting this book, but I really didn't like it. I haven't even finished it. I didn't like the writing and I didn't like the narrator.
What was most disappointing about Patricia Highsmith’s story?
The main characters are dull and annoying,
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Bronson Pinchot?
I don't really know. At least someone who keeps a steady reading pace and volume. Now I kept adjusting the speed and volume.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
No, I started listening months ago and really had to force myself to continue. I now just gave up.

Historia
In April 1992 a young man from a well-to-do family hitchhiked to Alaska and walked alone into the wilderness north of Mt. McKinley. His name was Christopher Johnson McCandless. He had given $25,000 in savings to charity, abandoned his car and most of his possessions, burned all the cash in his wallet, and invented a new life for himself.

Hard to stop listening
Revisado: 02-04-16
What made the experience of listening to Into the Wild the most enjoyable?
It's an interesting and sometimes frustrating story about the choices of a jong man. During listening there were times that I really respected his choices and there were times that I could only think of how selfish he was. This book is written based of some information left by Chris McCandless but also based on stories of people who knew him or who shortly met him. This means that part of this book is based on facts, but also a big part are just speculations. Because of that I don't think you can really judge Chris. Jon Krakauer manages to tell the story well without selling his assumptions as facts. Also the part where Jon tells about his own relationship with his father and his experience with dangerous climbs when he was about Chris' age puts things in perspective.
What other book might you compare Into the Wild to and why?
Into Thin Air. Both books of Jon Krakauer are written in the same style which I really like.
Have you listened to any of Philip Franklin’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, and again I really liked his performance.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, but unfortunately I didn't have the time for that. Also, once I finished the book I immediately wanted to watch the movie because I just didn't want things to end.

Not bad
Revisado: 01-28-16
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
There are probably a million better books to listen to, but this was a nice and relaxing book.
Would you recommend Until It's Over to your friends? Why or why not?
Not to all of my friends, but I know one or two who would appreciate this book
What three words best describe Anne Flosnik’s performance?
Not that bad.
Did Until It's Over inspire you to do anything?
Not at all. It was a nice book for a lazy Sunday, just lying on the couch and listening.
Any additional comments?
Don't expect to be surprised by this book. It's more about the dynamic in a group of people when weird things happen. The first part (2/3) of the book is told from a girl's perspective. The second part (1/3) is told from the killer's perspective. At that point you already know who did it, so no surprises there.

The debut psychological thriller that will forever change the way you look at other people's lives. Every day the same. Rachel takes the same commuter train every morning and night. Every day she rattles down the track, flashes past a stretch of cozy suburban homes, and stops at the signal that allows her to daily watch the same couple breakfasting on their deck. She’s even started to feel like she knows them. Jess and Jason, she calls them. Their life - as she sees it - is perfect. Not unlike the life she recently lost.

A boring story about 3 weak women
Revisado: 01-06-16
What would have made The Girl on the Train better?
The first half of the book is mainly about a drunk woman that was cheated on and is still feeling sorry for herself more than 2 years after her divorce. She's ruining her own life and doesn't seem to be able to act like a grown up. This is getting so bad and is dragging on for so long that I've been thinking about not finishing the book more than once. The other two female characters are just as weak and annoying, but just in a different way. Although the idea for the book had some potential, the weak and unlikable characters just ruined it.
What could Paula Hawkins have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
I guess if even one of the characters would be less weak and childish the story could have been better.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of the narrators?
No idea, but right now I was only able to listen to it at at least a speed of 1.5
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Girl on the Train?
The entire first half of the book.
Any additional comments?
I think this book was very overhyped. The characters are flat and unlikable and the story is nothing amazing. If you like a good thriller it's better if you don't waste any time and money on this one.

The vigilantism stops shy of murder. But with each visceral rush the line of self-control blurs. And then a young preschool teacher goes missing - only to return in parts.

Didn't see the end comming
Revisado: 12-30-15
Would you consider the audio edition of Killer Instinct to be better than the print version?
I have no idea. I only have the audio edition.
What did you like best about this story?
The ending surprised me a lot. I really didn't see it coming this time and it's been a long time since any book surprised me like that.
What does Emily Woo Zeller bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I'm not sure. I listen to audio books during my commute, not because I don't like to read books myself. I did like the narration of Emily Woo a lot.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Her choices at the end.

Atlanta, 1974: It's Kate Murphy's first day on the job, and the Atlanta Police Department is seething after the murder of an officer. Before the day has barely begun, she already suspects she's not cut out to be a cop. Her male uniform is too big, she can't handle a gun, and she's rapidly learning that the APD is hardly a place that welcomes women. Worse still, in the ensuing manhunt she'll be partnered with Maggie Lawson, a cop with her own ax to grind.

Not my favorite Karen Slaughter book
Revisado: 12-30-15
Would you try another book from Karin Slaughter and/or Kathleen Early?
Yes, but that's more because of all the other books I've read from Karen Slaughter.
If you’ve listened to books by Karin Slaughter before, how does this one compare?
I haven't listened to other Karen Slaughter books, but I did read a lot of them. This is my least favorite. The way the men behaved towards the women in this book made me really angry. At some points I actually started yelling at them.
Would you listen to another book narrated by Kathleen Early?
I will because I bought Pretty Girls, but I didn't buy it because she is narrating the book. I bought it because I love Karen Slaughter's writing. Kathleen sometimes got on my nerves. She pauses at weird points and there is not much energy in her voice. When I changed the speed to 1.25 or even 1.5 it made those weird pauses a bit less obvious.
Could you see Cop Town being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
I could see this become a movie or even a TV series, but I have no idea who should be the stars.
Any additional comments?
It's not a bad story, but I've read a lot better stories from Karen Slaughter. The narrator wasn't horrible, but I'm not a fan either.

Breathtaking
Revisado: 12-01-15
Where does Into Thin Air rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Number 1
Who was your favorite character and why?
As this is a true story and it's written from the point of view of Jon Krakauer, it's hard to fully know and understand the other characters. This makes it impossible to name a favorite character.
Which scene was your favorite?
The entire story is great. I can't pick one specific scene.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Absolutely

Historia
Two words: the bullet. That's all it takes to shatter her life. Caroline Cashion is beautiful, intelligent, a professor of French literature. But in a split second, everything she's known is proved to be a lie. A single bullet, gracefully tapered at one end, is found lodged at the base of her skull. Caroline is stunned. It makes no sense: She has never been shot. She has no entry wound, no scar. Then, over the course of one awful evening, she learns the truth.

A little boring at times
Revisado: 12-01-15
What did you love best about The Bullet?
For this book "love" is a big word. What I did like was how Caroline starts to figure out her past.
Would you be willing to try another book from Mary Louise Kelly? Why or why not?
I'm not sure. She uses too many uninteresting details and the main character is a big cliché.
What does Cassandra Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
She pauses a lot between words, so it took me a while to get into the story, but once I got used to it it didn't bother me anymore. She has a nice tone of voice and I like her reading speed.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I wouldn't make a film of this. It would either be a really short film or a really boring film.
Any additional comments?
It's ok if you're looking for something simple and predictable. If you don't expect too much from the book, it's quite ok.
