Historia
When a small vial arrives in her mailbox from "Lewis Carroll", Ayelet Waldman is at a low point. Her mood storms have become intolerably severe; she has tried nearly every medication possible; her husband and children are suffering with her. So she opens the vial, places two drops on her tongue, and joins the ranks of an underground but increasingly vocal group of scientists and civilians successfully using therapeutic microdoses of LSD.

Where have all the flowers gone...
Revisado: 06-04-19
As the chorus of that song goes "when will we ever learn."
Another well researched, well written and well read account, by a well educated and particularly well experienced author of the perils of prohibition.
How many suffer due to the persecution and prosecution of failed drug prohibition carried on due to superstition and intentional misinformation?
Please read this book with an open mind and perhaps ask your politicians if you're tax dollars might be better spent on things other than more police, courtrooms and prisons.

Science or Superstition?
Revisado: 06-01-19
Cosmos, afternoon 40 years, is still amazing. The way that it weaves in and out of superstition and science and different points of view keeps one continually thinking "what if? "
There are few scientists who are able to express their enthusiastic passion and joy of discovery as Carl Sagan or Richard Feynman while being able to explain things to people with no education in their field of expertise. We are lucky to have their legacy.
Read this book and consider how many people today would be in that mob at the burning of the Library at Alexandria....

The Story of Western Science shows us the joy and importance of reading groundbreaking science writing for ourselves and guides us back to the masterpieces that have changed the way we think about our world, our cosmos, and ourselves.

Some of the politics and ethics made me laugh and wonder what might have been.
An afterword would have been nice.

Think you have a good memory? Think again. Memories are our most cherished possessions. We rely on them every day of our lives. They make us who we are. And yet the truth is they are far from being the accurate record of the past we like to think they are. True, we can all admit to having suffered occasional memory lapses, such as entering a room and immediately forgetting why or suddenly being unable to recall the name of someone we've met dozens of times. But what if we have the potential for more profound errors of memory?

Conundrum...
Revisado: 11-09-17
I think that I really enjoyed and learned a lot from this book. The problem is that what I think I learned tells me that maybe I didn't. So, the question is should I go back and reread the book? Maybe I'll wait a year and see how a second reading jives with my memory.

Revisado: 08-30-17
Not a bad book but most of it was Spain in general. Only the last few chapters were about the Basque Country.
This book would probably be better in print as there are many things that you're going to need to use the information provided. there are lots of restaurant reviews with addresses and phone numbers as well as directions to places with Highway numbers that you'll only remember if you have an incredible memory. It's probable that many of the restaurants aren't even in business or their ratings have changed as the book was published in 2012.
