This was such a twisty finale to this trilogy! The change of POV was interesting and now I can’t wait to read the prequel!

Just when the book seemed to drop off a bit, it picked up with a twist and was engaging until the end. It ends in a way that makes you want to immediately pick up the sequel, have to know what happens! And of course, it’s splatterpunk, so be prepared for what all that encompasses.

Historia
The year is 2032, and five-year-old Jacob is opening the biggest gift, beneath the Christmas tree, which is labeled for him: his very first semi-automatic rifle—and he couldn't be prouder. He smiles to his parents who sit close by. They don't smile back. Their minds are stuck on earlier events of what should have been a magical day: the moment they found out Jacob was set to be a brother.

As intense & unsettling as it should be
Revisado: 01-02-25
Wow, just wow. Even though this book is short, it hit all the points right on. Intense, unsettling, extreme horror (& hopefully remains fiction). With the current political climate, our world only seems to inch closer & closer to this narrative & a what was once thought of as authoritarian dystopian world. My wife & I really enjoyed this book, & it being narrated by Shaw himself just made it even better. We can’t wait to enjoy more of his works.

Historia
In the city of fear, money holds dominion over all. With a new designer drug numbing the population, a rash of mysterious disappearances, and a murder rate rising higher than the tallest skyscraper, the only people with the means to distance themselves from the corruption are the ones fostering it. Enter Benjamin—a lone hundred-dollar bill caught in the middle. In a storm of pills, bullets, and bloodshed, Benjamin passes through the hands of several desperate criminals.

Better as a Screenplay
Revisado: 12-30-24
What an interesting & unique ride! This book kept me on my toes after the first half, it took a bit for the ball to get rolling. It isn’t Beauregard’s best work but it is still interesting, fun, disgusting, & shocking as ever. McKenzie’s added perspectives & writing style give this book a fresh feeling, for the more Beauregard connoisseurs. All in all, good narrative & at times characters that make you root for them or against them. It definitely reads more like a screenplay rather than a book, & I recommend the audiobook & to ensure to watch the immersive videos! The immersive videos really leap the story off the page.

Historia
The Holy Bible, according to Matt Shaw. Taking the popular stories from the Bible and giving them a horror twist, this book is not intended to be used as a way of preaching your beliefs. God would probably frown down upon such usage, but if you wanted to put your feet up and chuckle along with some dark humor, then God would surely approve. For fans of the original book, this isn't for you. You won't like this. Don't listen to it. Don't be mad at me for writing it, though because, if you think about it, I am still getting the important stories out there. Kind of.

Not for religious folx. This book is absolutely hilarious and brilliant. I read it in one go and will be reading it again later with my wife because I need to share the hilarity. I have a large online order of books shipping from Shaw’s personal website, for holiday, and after reading this book I am even more excited for the shipment.

Underwhelming “extreme” horror
Revisado: 11-25-24
Underwhelming to say the least. There are better authors for splatterpunk and extreme horror. This wasn’t a hit for me. The narrative felt static and characters were not engaging. I would have DNF if it wasn’t so short of a book.

Historia
Vera Harlow is a survivor. After a chance encounter led to her being held captive in a disgusting house of horrors, she fought tooth and nail to escape the clutches of a man known only as The Slob. But while she may have fled the disastrous situation, the details of her struggle are now carved into her flesh and soul. Vera’s son is the product of utter depravity. Harold, the sinister seed left by the man who took everything from her, continues to blossom in nauseating fashion. His features and habits are stomach-churning, vividly familiar, and becoming more disturbing by the day.

Can’t wait for book 3!
Revisado: 11-25-24
This is for “the people who want something different and aren’t afraid of being misunderstood or judged for supporting extreme fiction without boundaries.” - Aron Beauregard
Dark, disturbing, and gross-out horror with a focus on the darker aspects of human nature. This one is for fans of unapologetic, unflinching, and unrelenting horror.
The author’s forward of the collection is a humbling, gritty, and so damn relatable. This book wasn’t as good as the first book in the soon-to-be trilogy, but it was still a solid read. I don’t have children but I’d assume this one would be rough for parents, as is the first book. Beauregard keeps you on your toes and coming back for more (for better or worse). The audiobook was pretty good too. The narrator wasn’t monotonous as some splatterpunk narrators are. The author’s note at the end is hilarious. Looking forward to book 3! The sneak peak for the third installation, ‘Bride of the Slob’, was at the end of the second book in the Slob Collection purchased from Beauregard’s site.
If you’re not a Splatterpunk fan, this book and author are not for you, be warned.

Splatterpunk! You’ve been warned!
Revisado: 11-15-24
This is for “the people who want something different and aren’t afraid of being misunderstood or judged for supporting extreme fiction without boundaries.” - Aron Beauregard
Well, that was…an experience. An unapologetic and unflinching horror. Imagery and scene building were great, and oh man did I get nauseous. Splatterpunk for sure. The narrative didn’t bore me and while the plot rocketed along, I couldn’t help the knots in my stomach and cheering for the protagonist to get out! Do you struggle with imagining characters? We’ll step right up, does Beauregard have a treat for you! This antagonist leaves nothing to the imagination as the author’s descriptive language takes you on a journey your facial expression will change like a dial, from ew cranked all the way up to vehemently disgusted. The last few chapters were an interesting way to prep for the next book, and holy sh*t was there a nasty cliffhanger. While I enjoyed Aron Beauregard’s ‘The Playground’ more, this book was a strong solid 3 stars for plot. I bumped it up to 4 stars ‘cause it did have me engaged throughout, going through numerous facial expressions and some brief pauses for nausea, and getting me interested in the next book. This book is just like a haunted house, excited to go into but weary of the experience. Moral of the story? Hmm. Trust your gut with red flags & take off running in the other direction, and don’t let greed blind you.
The author’s forward of the collection is a humbling, gritty, and so damn relatable. The sneak peak for the third installation, ‘Bride of the Slob’, was at the end of the second book in the Slob Collection purchased from Beauregard’s site.
This book and author are not for those inexperienced with splatterpunk. You’ve been warned. Not only is there gore but there is a ton of taboo topics and splatterpunk of course if known for a horror of all your senses. Tread carefully.
Note to author: Hey Aron! Thanks for the crazy ride! I can’t wait for the next book to come in the mail. I like onions too and also wish I could remember my dreams to aid in my writing (IYKYK).

All the parents must do to collect the rest of their money is allow their children to test out the revolutionary playground equipment Geraldine has been working on for decades. While most horror books don’t bother with depth, character development, metaphors, motifs, & engaging dialogue, this books does ALL OF THAT!! I was so pleasantly surprised & horrified reading this book!! Beauregard has officially claimed the top spot in my favorite splatterpunk authors!! Well done, sir! Well effin done!
