For the women…
Revisado: 04-25-25
This is the story of women…the parts unseen and the parts we can’t explain…even with each other…all the dreams we hold…all the times we swallow a little bit of ourselves…the things that often times we look back on and realize they have turned into our life while we were waiting and hoping for a different one…Chimamanda never fails to tell our stories…the culture spoken of here is important also it is the story of women…the considerations and lenses may be different from a person of a different culture but the stories are the same…the weight of societal
Expectations that we have internalized are the same…the number of choices are the same…the dreams are the same…this is ode to understanding us…I recommend this for young women and not so young women…Well done! Thank you for seeing us!

Speechless…best writing I’ve literally ever read/listened to…
Revisado: 05-26-23
I am an avid reader/listener…have been all my life…This is likely the best book I have literally ever read in my life or in a very very long time - I am a real person and this is a real review and I mean it from the heart
Saw Oprah and the author on some morning show…she was so excited I thought I’d give it a try - I heard her say it was so good that she went back and got the first book…so I decided to get both and start with the first…that said…this author is amazing…it is so detailed, well Researched and well narrated that it is transportive - the world he paints is so real that I kept thinking of it as a memoir and wanting to Google the characters to get a look at them to see if they matched my imagination! The only literary works I can compare this to would be the Color Purple or Little House on the Prairie which are both old but if you’ve read them they are all engrossing and you literally live in that world while you read it - this is that kind of book…starting the second book now but wanted to be sure I left a real review since sometimes I don’t believe some reviews are authentic - someone may think that about this one 🤷🏽♀️ - either way don’t shear yourself if you want a book to escape into this is it!

Historia
In this groundbreaking book, Melissa V. Harris-Perry uses multiple methods of inquiry, including literary analysis, political theory, focus groups, surveys, and experimental research, to understand more deeply black women's political and emotional responses to pervasive negative race and gender images. Not a traditional political science work concerned with office-seeking, voting, or ideology, Sister Citizen is an examination of how African American women understand themselves as citizens and what they expect from political organizing.

Historia
In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Strengthened
Revisado: 03-15-23
I have never heard someone explain the underworld of poverty and little black girls like me in such clarity since “The Bluest Eye” - only this hits different as it is auto-biographical and not fiction…I have never had words to explain my childhood view and she has explained scenarios in my life that I couldn’t give words to…in awe…this is the story of and an I would say validation and encouragement for little black girls everywhere

Historia
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

Deeply reflective…
Revisado: 01-18-23
His story…in his words…everyone has a right to tell their story and how they experience a thing, a moment, a life…I did not find it bashing in any way…simply telling his story in his own voice which will stand as a part of the research when “history” is told. Great work and GOD Bless!

Historia
Though Anderson Cooper has always considered himself close to his mother, his intensely busy career as a journalist for CNN and CBS affords him little time to spend with her. After she suffers a brief but serious illness at the age of ninety-one, they resolve to change their relationship by beginning a yearlong conversation unlike any they have ever had before. The result is a correspondence of surprising honesty and depth in which they discuss their lives, the things that matter to them, and what they still want to learn about each other.

Healing
Revisado: 10-01-21
This book was so touching…there are so many that wish they could have this type conversation with a parent or loved one…there is often such a mismatch in how parents and kids interpret their experiences but the reconciliation never happens…I can’t even explain how this book helps the reader to think more about their own experience with a parent and so many things unspoken and how these unspoken things have shaped them…the magic is an understanding that the parent is a person and has also been shaped…they can’t give what they don’t have…though imperfect they are still a gift and you are more alike than you think…it can all often work for good in your person if you let it…
Of note it is made even better being read in the voices of the authors…the messages that each share with the readers is thought provoking and inspires you toward reframing the negative from defining your life rather just being a small part of an ongoing story of your life that is even today still developing…
Thank you Anderson for sharing this very personal journey

Historia
Thirty years ago, Amelia Vaux Tanner and her husband built a house high on the bluffs, a cottage they named Chateau Laveau. For decades, “Ama” played host to American presidents, Wall Street titans, and cultural icons. But her favorite guests have always been her three “goddaughters”: Esperanza “Perry” Soto, a beautiful, talented Afro-Latina lawyer with Ama’s strong, yet guarded personality; Olivia Jones, a gifted Wall Street analyst with Ama’s brilliant, logical mind; and Billie Hayden, a gifted marine biologist and rule-breaker with Ama’s courageous free spirit.

More Amelia and Omar please! More of them all!
Revisado: 06-04-21
This book is just what we need - a powerful dignified and intriguing black family using their influence to do as an extension of their hearts - making hard choices and demonstrating humanness - again still with a bit of intrigue! I am from Louisiana and it has always been our tradition to “adopt” community members and those in need as our family - this shone well in this book. Let’s delve into the characters and their experiences with more books please with continuous installments until the book series becomes a community staple!
