Historia
In the vein of classic authors such as Robert Heinlein, Isaac Asimov, and Arthur C. Clarke, Nathan Arkwright is a seminal author of the 20th century. At the end of his life he becomes reclusive and cantankerous, refusing to appear before or interact with his legion of fans. Little does anyone know, Nathan is putting into motion his true timeless legacy. Convinced that humanity cannot survive on Earth, his Arkwright Foundation dedicates itself to creating a colony on an earthlike planet several light-years distant.

Historia
Our universe is ruled by physics, and faster-than-light travel is not possible - until the discovery of The Flow, an extradimensional field we can access at certain points in space-time that transports us to other worlds, around other stars. Humanity flows away from Earth, into space, and in time forgets our home world and creates a new empire, the Interdependency, whose ethos requires that no one human outpost can survive without the others. It's a hedge against interstellar war - and a system of control for the rulers of the empire.

A little short for a credit
Revisado: 05-04-17
What made the experience of listening to The Collapsing Empire the most enjoyable?
I liked the characters concepts, character development and the narration.
What other book might you compare The Collapsing Empire to and why?
Wanted to compare it to something by Hamilton but it is shallow by that measure.
What about Wil Wheaton’s performance did you like?
He has grown as a narrator over the series of books I have heard him perform. From "wow Wil is reading me a book" to less about it being Wil and more about good narration.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
The pace was fast but the book was short so I didn't want to rush through it.

Historia
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Not really sci-fi, sci-horror
Revisado: 11-10-16
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
different ending
What could Peter Clines have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
classified this book as horror
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
disappointed
Any additional comments?
The first 1/2 of this book was pretty interesting then totally slipped into some kind of whack sci-horror, which is fine as a thing but not a thing for me. Too much goo, too much squish, too many random alien fish.
