To long by a quarter...
Revisado: 12-11-23
The entire storyline of the Martell boy should have been edited out. It served zero purpose to the story, beginning and ending within the book and sing nothing but filler.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Great story
Revisado: 01-17-22
For the first 3/4 of the book I was as good as nailed to it. I listened for 12 hours straight. it's just dragged a bit the last 5 or 6 chapters. The back and forth was a bit fatiguing. I don't know how they will make this into a movie, but I'll watch it when they do.

Historia
Sean Carroll, theoretical physicist and one of this world’s most celebrated writers on science, rewrites the history of 20th-century physics. Already hailed as a masterpiece, Something Deeply Hidden shows for the first time that facing up to the essential puzzle of quantum mechanics utterly transforms how we think about space and time. His reconciling of quantum mechanics with Einstein’s theory of relativity changes, well, everything. Most physicists haven’t even recognized the uncomfortable truth: Physics has been in crisis since 1927.

A fun romp from an Everettian perspective...
Revisado: 07-08-21
The bits of history about Everett and Bohm at first losing to the Gated Institutional Narrative, but finally gaining acceptance many years later shows that science hasn't really progressed much in the past 70 years.

Author of the National Book Award-winning All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy is one of the most provocative American stylists to emerge in the last century. The striking novel Blood Meridian offers an unflinching narrative of the brutality that accompanied the push west on the 1850s Texas frontier.

Historia
What happens when something is sucked into a black hole? Does it disappear? Three decades ago, a young physicist named Stephen Hawking claimed that it did - and in doing so, put at risk everything we know about the fundamental laws of the universe. Leonard Susskind and Gerard 't Hooft realized the threat and responded with a counterattack that changed the course of physics.

Epic History
Revisado: 02-10-21
80 hours of listening, but worth it. I'm not a fan of the Narrator, but he fades into the background fast enough. Contemporary histories like these are fascinating and rare and necessary if we plan, as a society, not to repeat them.

Historia
Hailed as one of the world’s masterpieces of psychological realism, The Death of Ivan Ilyich is the story of a worldly careerist, a high-court judge who has never given the inevitability of his death so much as a passing thought. But one day death announces itself to him, and to his shocked surprise he is brought face-to-face with his own mortality. How, Tolstoy asks, does an unreflective man confront his one and only moment of truth?

Historia
One of the most extraordinary literary documents to have emerged from the Soviet Union, this is the story of labor camp inmate Ivan Denisovich Shukhov and his struggle to maintain his dignity in the face of Communist oppression. Based on the author’s own experience in the gulags, where he spent nearly a decade as punishment for making derogatory remarks against Stalin, the novel is an unforgettable portrait of the entire world of Stalin’s forced work camps.
