Historia
Biblical womanhood - the belief that God designed women to be submissive wives, virtuous mothers, and joyful homemakers - pervades North American Christianity. From choices about careers to roles in local churches to relationship dynamics, this belief shapes the everyday lives of evangelical women. Yet biblical womanhood isn't biblical, says Baylor University historian Beth Allison Barr. It was born in a series of clearly definable historical moments.

Important read for Christian’s
Revisado: 12-06-23
This is an excellent book which lays out a clear explanation, of the historical maneuvering used to keep the patriarchy in place and suppress women. It points to the damaging effects of the belief in Complementarianism and ask American evangelicals to reevaluate the way they view scripture. It is powerful, meaningful and freeing.

Mark Karris offers a first-of-a-kind audiobook that explores petitionary prayer alongside theodicy, social justice, and personal moral responsibility. Divine Echoes journeys through the investigation, deconstruction, and reconstruction of petitionary prayer. Karris also reveals a revolutionary model of petitionary prayer that he refers to as "conspiring prayer". Filled with real-life examples, this audiobook will inform and equip both individuals and churches to pray transformative and subversive prayers that will increase God's love, healing, and beauty in the world.

I really enjoyed this somewhat alternative view of how prayer works. In the end this book is not only about prayer but also a call to action for Christians to get on with the work of healing the world.

Historia
This fascinating 24-lecture course is a richly detailed guide to the theology, sacred writings, rituals, and outstanding human figures of the Gnostic movements. What we call "Gnosticism" comprised a number of related religious ideologies and movements, all of which sought " gnosis," or immediate, direct, and intimate knowledge of God. The Gnostics had many scriptures, but unlike the holy texts of other religions, Gnostic scriptures were often modified over time.

Very interesting
Revisado: 02-07-23
I really enjoyed learning about Nag Hammadi and the information it held. I enjoyed hearing the ways inquice scholars did there research and they ways these text related to various religious groups. I like that the author not only presented his point of view but others as well.

Historia
George Eliot's most ambitious novel is a masterly evocation of diverse lives and changing fortunes in a provincial community. Peopling its landscape are Dorothea Brooke, a young idealist whose search for intellectual fulfillment leads her into a disastrous marriage to the pedantic scholar Casaubon; and the charming but tactless Dr Lydgate, whose marriage to the spendthrift beauty Rosamund and pioneering medical methods threaten to undermine his career.

Great story
Revisado: 12-06-22
I love this story because of Eliot’s powerful insights into human nature, and her satire on the state of society durning her time. They stand the test of time and provide insight for us to analyze the behavior and beliefs of our society.

Classic with relevance for today.
Revisado: 09-25-21
The picture Dickens paints of moral society makes it easy to see where we go wrong by judging, and punishing. He demonstrates that the virtues of mercy, compassion, kindness, patience, and forgiveness go far in creating better existence. His stories always call me to evaluate how I am treating the people around me.

Strange
Revisado: 09-02-20
This work did leave with a lot to think about as “fairytales” often do. I mean they are weird stories! These are very overtly sexual. All of them. They are very sensual as well. It was a bit much for my taste, a little cheesy. I think 20 year old me would have loved them. I read this work because it was in a list of “must read “feminist works. I think I am disappointed because it left me feeling more exposed than empowered.
There were a few great plot twist that I loved but if you are looking for a feminist work I think I would recommend “Women Who Run with Wolves” over this one.
