This story can’t decide what it wants to be. A Gothic mystery, a romance, or gay smut. In any case it’s awful at the latter two, and only marginally better at the former.

Mark McNease is growing as an author. I have enjoyed his books but this one really is a page turner. Where as the protagonist is typically in the right place at the right time for mystery solving, he instead seeks out this mystery making it more believable. The vocal artist is also great!

Loved it. For fans of LGBT fiction this is a must read. Set in suburban Philadelphia, it focuses on a gay couple staying at a lodge when a fellow guest dies. It takes off quickly and doesn't stop. I'd like to say that I foresaw the ending but I did not. Give this book a try!

What did you love best about Pride and Perilous?

I found this book on a list of LGBT books. I read the blurb about it and downloaded it on audible, not knowing what to expect. I will say, in not knowing what to expect, I thoroughly enjoyed it! The author does a great job introducing characters who had previously been introduced in Book 1 of the series (which I had not yet read). The author sets the scene and brings alive the story of murder. While many of the characters are LGBT, not all are, and you don't have any LGBT erotica that has become all too synonymous with books in this genre. It is a good book set in the LGBT culture of the Northeastern US, in actual locations rather than made up towns and cities, such that anyone familiar with Hells Kitchen, Chelsea, or Philly's Gayborhood will immediately recognize the settings.

Ultimately, I'd recommend it to anyone who enjoys good fiction with an LGBT flare.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes! However, that did not happen because it is somewhat long for one sitting.

Any additional comments?

I hope the Kyle Callahan series continues to grow!
