Historia
Norah can’t stop thinking about the night her brother died. She was supposed to stay with him at the Halloween carnival. He’d begged her to stay. But they’d fought, and Norah left him alone in the woods. That was before she realized there was a real killer lurking among the costumes and macabre props. When the carnival reopens just weeks later amid a media controversy, Norah decides to retrace her brother’s last steps in a desperate attempt to unravel what really happened that night. But the woods hold more than just traumatic memories.

Predictable one dimensional plot

Yawn, I usually don’t leave bad reviews and just chalk it up to not being my cup of tea. But this just felt phoned in.

Solid but not amazing
Revisado: 10-21-24
Maybe this book got overhyped for me. Hence why I’m giving it three stars to balance out all of the five star reviews as I personally think this deserves four stars. Solid book, but felt like it droned on and on. Twenty five percent could have been eliminated.

Historia
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Meh, ho hum, average
Revisado: 05-09-24
Unsure why this book has such high praise. Found the storyline predictable and the writing to be cringy. The plot never really kept you guessing. Rather it was just boring and basic. Audio was entertaining with the podcast, but without that going for it, I would have never finished.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

Performance saved this story
Revisado: 12-28-19
While the writing was beautiful and painted the scene, I found the plot winding, dreary and uneventful for ten hours. Had it not been for Tom Hanks salvaging the story and making it kind of entertaining, I would have given up on this book.
