Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

My favorite type of story
Revisado: 05-13-20
From the first time I read the John Sedges [aka Pearl Buck] American Typerich books, I have adored stories that follow a family across generations. That was this story all in one book! It was made even better by it being read by Tom Hanks. I will come back and listen again, which I rarely do.

My name is Sister Trixie Lavender, and I'm an occasionally possessed excommunicated nun. I was booted from the convent after doing something unspeakable. Something I had no control over. Something that lives inside me to this day, exploding out like that chest-burster in Alien when I least suspect it.

easy and entertaining
Revisado: 01-11-19
By easy, I mean it is easy listening to the entertaining stories. It was well written and the performance was a;sp entertaining and made even better by the accents of the differing characters'. The cat sounds were a bit off putting.

Its a bit amaturish
Revisado: 10-10-18
I found that it was amateurish in the writing with gimmicky wording and references.. It got better as it got further into the story. Really seemed like it needed help from the editor to polish the story or maybe it was just immature?
