Historia
Grief has settled in at Hart House. For nine months, Alfie has been caring for his twin seven-year-old daughters after the sudden death of their mother, Pippa. One night, Alfie wakes to find Sylvie and Cassia at the foot of his bed, claiming there’s a man in their room. Alfie finds no sign of a man, but it isn’t long before the girls start talking about an imaginary friend. What seemingly begins as a harmless coping mechanism for the two grieving girls quickly develops into something more insidious.

Narration was kind of weird
Revisado: 03-23-24
The male narrator sounded like a computer-generated voice at many times. It was very distracting.

Perfect narration of a great story!

I hardly ever write reviews, but I have to for this one. If anyone was ever on the fence about whether to read or to listen to a book, you would be well served to listen to this fantastic mystery. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and enjoyed many amusing moments that became laugh-out-loud funny. The story is fabulous, and I’m hoping that it could be the start of a series.

She doesn’t want to deal with her family home, stuffed to the rafters with the remnants of her father’s academic career and her mother’s lifelong obsession with puppets and dolls. Most of all, she doesn’t want to deal with her brother, Mark, who never left their hometown, gets fired from one job after another, and resents her success.

Silly. Not scary.
Revisado: 02-13-23
If hand puppets scare you, and dumb characters don’t annoy you, by all means, listen to this book. I only finished it so that I wouldn’t feel like I wasted a credit. But I can safely say, having finished it by listening to only the opening lines of the last 7 chapters, I wasted a credit on this.

Lost interest after a bunch of shootouts
Revisado: 03-22-19
I think the subject matter would be interesting, but the story is the same type as the movie with Nicholas Cage going all over the place finding artifacts and clues to the nation’s founding. Might make a fun movie to watch, or borrow the book from someone, but I’m sorry I used a credit on it.

Historia
It's 1998, and for years the old First Bank of Cleveland has sat abandoned, perfectly preserved, its secrets only speculated on by the outside world. Twenty years before, amid strange staff disappearances and allegations of fraud, panicked investors sold Cleveland's largest bank in the middle of the night, locking out customers and employees and thwarting a looming federal investigation. In the confusion that followed, the keys to the vault's safe-deposit boxes were lost.

I just skipped to the epilogue
Revisado: 01-11-19
I rarely review books, and usually do it because I’m mad I wasted time listening to them. I thought the story was plodding and the characters unsympathetic and non-compelling. About 18 chapters into it, my son was in the car and asked me what it was about, and I realized I didn’t know. So far, someone had found a key, and that’s it. Also, I really wish audible had a feature to alert a buyer when they’ve purchased a book with same narrator as previous purchases. This narrator has a very narrow range, and have found her narrations consistently unenjoyable. I would not recommend this book, and I would not buy more books with this narrator again.

Historia
First-year detective Kathleen Doyle is a plucky Irish redhead of humble origins and modest means. Chief Inspector Michael Acton is her antithesis: a British lord turned cop. He's tall, handsome, and enigmatic - to a fault. He also has a knack for solving London's most high-profile crimes. Acton selects Doyle out of the newbie squad to partner with him on a series of investigations because she always knows when someone is lying - a trait that comes in handy when interviewing suspects and witnesses.

Cringeworthy

Have read some reviews about the book and wish I read them before wasting a credit on it. Silly love story in disguise as a mystery. Unrelatable main characters. Ridiculous situations. I will stay away from the rest of the series

1st and LAST John Corey book
Revisado: 10-07-17
Not even finished the book yet but I know this will be the only John Corey story I listen to. The story plods along with too much dim-witted dialogue, and the investigation is based on a hypothesis that’s shaky, at best, from the start. I haven’t even able to remain “tuned in” when listening because the story isn’t compelling at all. Thumbs down.
