Historia
The sun is bloated, diseased, dying perhaps. Beneath its baneful light, Shadrapar, last of all cities, harbours fewer than 100,000 human souls. Built on the ruins of countless civilisations, Shadrapar is a museum, a midden, an asylum, a prison on a world that is ever more alien to humanity. Bearing witness to the desperate struggle for existence between life old and new is Stefan Advani: rebel, outlaw, prisoner, survivor.

Compelling world building with interesting characters with and ending that just kind of ends.
Revisado: 12-10-24
Lots of interesting characters and sidebar stories keeps it interesting. However the ending sorsort of leaves a lot unresolved. Could be a great conceptual fiction, but doesn't really give you an A HA moment.

One of the weakest UM thus far.
Revisado: 09-06-21
As always I find these stories fun and easy to listen to. However this one was a pretty weak effort in my estimation. Timelines in the story were all over the shop and the tough situations which typically are centerpieces of clever wit and evasion were simply glossed over and felt empty. Definitely my least favorite book of the series and I hope the next one has a little more effort and better editing

Historia
The haiman Orlandine, charged with safeguarding lethal Jain tech swirling inside an accretion disc located in the distant reaches of space, has weaponized a black hole to eliminate the threat. But others are suspicious of her motives, and both the Polity AIs and the leaders of the alien prador kingdom dispatch fleets of warships in anticipation of conflict. As the black hole continues to eat its way through the planets in the accretion disc, making its way towards a dead sun, it becomes clear the disc has been hiding a larger secret.

A bit all over the place
Revisado: 10-15-19
I've listened to a lot of Neal Asher. I really like his descriptive narratives and character development. This book however seemed to be a huge set up story with so many different plot lines. None of them really meant anything to me and I only vaguely understood the plot line and situations. perhaps I didn't listen with enough focus, but definitely struggled to finish this one. and especially upset that my Audible store doesnt have book 3 so I guess I'll never know how this all turns out.

boyett was a great choice for this. his style goes well with Larson writing and I'm aiming van dyke is what made this particular story more compelling than some of Larsons other work (undying mercenaries).

Historia
Neal Asher takes on first contact, Polity style. This original novel recounts the first contact between the aggressive Prador aliens, and the Polity Collective as it is forced to retool its society to a war footing. The overwhelming brute force of the Prador dreadnaughts causes several worlds and space stations to be overrun. Prador Moon follows the initial Polity defeats, to the first draws, and culminates in what might be the first Polity victory, told from the point of view of two unlikely heroes.

not my favorite by asher, the build up never really delivers. I recommend for anyone reading the polity series, as it helps create perspective, but I feel like that is kind of all this book is good for.

As an unnamed but unforgettable woman muses on her life—from meet cute to marriage and parenthood—her recollections inexorably build to a devastating truth. In this shattering performance, Carey Mulligan, star of the critically lauded drama An Education, captivates audiences with playwright Dennis Kelly’s harrowing ruminations on family, ambition, gender, and violence.

Honestly had no idea what to expect from this story. Was under the impression it was an autobiographical story and it turned dark in a hurry. Turned out to be a dramatic monologue which kinda helps it make sense.

A really well written book with lots of good gritty storylines. I love the long winded multiple storyline stuff (the stand) and so I found this to be very enjoyable. I even thought the ending was quite good in wrapping around and giving meaning to the whole book. most read!

A fitting finish
Revisado: 08-06-18
This book was a very good conclusion to the trilogy. I really loved the whole series and was sad that it had to end. The best part of the series to me is that all of it was essentially an introduction. Most books ot there can become quite repetitious in terms of what the characters are doing (Expeditionary Force). Asher does well to keep the evolution of both technology and characters coming non stop all the way to the finish. This is my favorite science fiction trilogy by quite a stretch.

The story is in keeping with the first two. I like it as a science fiction novel, but it reads pretty cheap in the grand scheme of what's out there. Will read #4 eventually but it's not next on my list
