Assata Shakur's trial and conviction for the murder of a white State Trooper in the spring of 1973 divided America. Her case quickly became emblematic of race relations and police brutality in the USA. While Assata's detractors continue to label her a ruthless killer, her defenders cite her as the victim of a systematic, racist campaign.

A must listen

I began reading this book many years ago but due to other situations, I unfortunately never completed it at the time. I am glad I was able to purchase it as an audible as it was a long over due read. Although the story of Miss Shakur does not need anything extra to keep my interest, Miss Riley’s narration did keep it more interesting and exciting. The trials and tribulations of Miss Shakur are unconscionable but very real. It is disheartening that she, other revolutionaries, and many Black and Brown people are subjected to the systemic oppression that continues to plague this country. I wish her and her family continued peace and blessings as a free woman!!!

Very Interesting and Worth it

Not at all what I thought this would be when I came across this book. Nonetheless, this was a great story and really enhanced my beliefs about the spirit. Although the narrator does not have the greatest voice for keeping people interested, it was still refreshing hearing him tell his story. I wish him and his family peace and blessings!!
