Historia
Why do successful people get things done at the last minute? Why does poverty persist? Why do the lonely find it hard to make friends? These questions seem unconnected, yet Sendhil Mullainathan and Eldar Shafir show that they are all are examples of a mindset produced by scarcity. Drawing on cutting-edge research from behavioral science and economics, Mullainathan and Shafir show that scarcity creates a similar psychology for everyone struggling to manage with less than they need.

Good ideas and thought-provoking arguments
Revisado: 10-20-23
I was particularly drawn to the concepts of bandwidth and slack: how not having a little extra of that resource we need can consume our bandwidth and make us less efficient and less rational. Of course, the idea of extra resource can be attacked from two angles: produce more while holding consumption constant, or produce the same while finding ways to consume less.

Historia
Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Worth the money, worth the time!
Revisado: 09-28-23
Morgan does not offer quick fixes to deep rooted problem. He lays out things to reflect about when considering money and how we manage it. His message addresses the paradigms and beliefs that drive behavior. These are the things we need to think about when we are looking for long-lasting change. Many aspects of life are driven not by what we do, but by how we think and what we believe. Morgan explores those two things well in this book within the context of money.

No deep message
Revisado: 05-25-20
The book is written in short unrelated sentences. To fully understand, one would have to paused and reflect after each sentence. This is the extreme opposite of a redundan book, but it is just as innefective.

Historia
In a series of illuminating, often surprising experiments, MIT behavioral economist Dan Ariely refutes the common assumption that we behave in fundamentally rational ways. Blending everyday experience with groundbreaking research, Ariely explains how expectations, emotions, social norms, and other invisible, seemingly illogical forces skew our reasoning abilities.

Interesting
Revisado: 03-18-20
Listening about human behavior is often interesting. I guess the more awareness about behavior and biases, the more equipped we are at choosing how to behave. Ariely did a good job on sharing some ideas.
One sad thing about behavioral economics books is that they seem to share about the same insight. Thus, if you read Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman, my favorite book, you would have gotten the insight here, in Freakconomics, and maybe many other books. Notice that I wrote "my favorite book", therefore, consider this comment biased.

Great read.
Revisado: 02-18-20
One must always think about personal finances. this book is a good way of starting that thinking. After understanding the potential that there is within each of us, then we must think and decide on a strategy to get where we want to get. that is one thing not included in the book.

Historia
A truth-sayer's guide to assessing one's entrepreneurial aptitude, written for anyone seriously considering starting a business of any kind. Most entrepreneur guides focus on the mechanics of raising capital, drafting a business plan, and handling licensing, but they overlook the serious self-reflection that is required in the decision to launch a business. And most of the literature is obsessed with success stories, while ignoring the much more illuminating and instructional lessons that can be learned from failure.

Very good points to consider. the author might seem blunt, but there is value on what he says.
