Historia
By 1920, the movies had suddenly become America's new favorite pastime and one of the nation's largest industries. Never before had a medium possessed such power to influence; yet Hollywood's glittering ascendancy was threatened by a string of headline-grabbing tragedies - including the murder of William Desmond Taylor, the popular president of the Motion Picture Directors Association, a legendary crime that has remained unsolved until now.

An interesting look at early Hollywood, and the way it was shaped by the people who ran it. Taylor's murder is a lens through which you view the whole of the industry.

Fun and Fast
Revisado: 11-04-18
This was a very fast moving book, and a lot of fun. As a number of other reviewers have said, the eponymous character is a lot like a supernatural Sherlock Holmes, although a lot more oblivious than deliberately not bothering. I enjoyed the story, and the life the narrator brought to the characters. I'm looking forward to the next two books, as well.

Historia
There are some odd things about Nate’s new apartment. Of course, he has other things on his mind. He hates his job. He has no money in the bank. No girlfriend. No plans for the future. So while his new home isn’t perfect, it’s livable. The rent is low, the property managers are friendly, and the odd little mysteries don’t nag at him too much. At least, not until he meets Mandy, his neighbor across the hall, and notices something unusual about her apartment. And Xela’s apartment. And Tim’s. And Veek’s.

Excellent, Gripping, and Intense
Revisado: 10-25-18
I bought this on a whim on one of those 2-for-1 sales and I am so glad I did. This book was not at all what I expected. I think that the summary leads you to expect a traditional horror book, but this is so much more wild and mysterious and unexpected than that. Every time the characters discovered something new about their building, I was drawn further and further into a maze of unexpected twists and turns.
Also, the narrator was truly excellent. This is my first book with him, but I would listen to another in a heartbeat.

Historia
Four full-cast dramas from the classic 1970s BBC Radio series, presented by and starring Vincent Price. Vincent Price, Hollywood's embodiment of horror, brings his macabre sense of humour and his unique blend of eeriness and stylish suspense to these four highly-polished dramatisations 'Cat's Cradle' (from 'The Squaw' by Bram Stoker) - When a kitten's head is accidentally crushed by a brash film producer, its mother takes some 'medieval' revenge.

Historia
When editor Susan Ryeland is given the manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has no reason to think it will be much different from any of his others. After working with the best-selling crime writer for years, she's intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries disturbing sleepy English villages. An homage to queens of classic British crime such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers, Alan's traditional formula has proved hugely successful.

Interesting Construction, Great Writing
Revisado: 09-20-18
The inner and outer stories in this book keep you guessing to the end. I was reading it along with a friend, and we agreed that we had a hard time deciding which murder we were actually more interested in. Both of the narrators are excellent and the writing is superb.

Historia
In the 1950s, a young Indianapolis minister named Jim Jones preached a curious blend of the gospel and Marxism. His congregation was racially mixed, and he was a leader in the early civil rights movement. Eventually, Jones moved his church, Peoples Temple, to northern California, where he got involved in electoral politics and became a prominent Bay Area leader. But underneath the surface lurked a terrible darkness.

Fascinating and Disturbing
Revisado: 08-06-18
I had previously thought that I was reasonably knowledgeable about Jonestown and the events leading to it, but I was wrong. This book is so extremely detailed, so enormously thorough that it brings new fascination to the matter. Also, with the knowledge of how it all ends, the points at which it starts to come off the rails are horribly obvious.

Revisado: 04-05-17
I love, love, love Paul Temple mysteries, and this collection includes my favorite cast. I have listened to it over and over again, and I will doubtless listen to it many times more. I feel like it's as good every single time as it was the first time.
