Historia
Pete Rose is a legend. A baseball god. He compiled more hits than anyone in the history of baseball, a record he set decades ago that still stands today. He was a working-class white guy from Cincinnati who made it; less talented than tough, and rough around the edges. He was everything that America wanted and needed him to be, the American dream personified, until he wasn’t. Charlie Hustle tells the full story of one of America’s most epic tragedies—the rise and fall of Pete Rose.

Boring and Redundant
Revisado: 04-02-24
Whether you love (I don't) or hate (I don't) Pete Rose, this story probably won't move the needle much. There's nothing new for baseball fans, and casual fans would be better off spending their time indulging a different baseball book. It feels like the author recently discovered the Rose saga and thought "I bet people will be interested in this!!". Really disappointing, as I was looking forward to this book for months. Won't recommend to my baseball friends or anyone else.

The American supermarket is an everyday miracle. But what does it take to run one? What are the inner workings of product delivery and distribution? Who sets the price? And who suffers for the convenience and efficiency we’ve come to expect? In this rollicking exposé, author Benjamin Lorr pulls back the curtain on this highly secretive industry.

Hard to Describe
Revisado: 01-15-22
You ever see the History Channel's "How it's Made"? You might turn it on while doing something else, not particularly interested in the subject matter, but then you find yourself wholeheartedly interested. This book is kind of like that.

Historia
The New York Yankees have won 27 world championships and 40 American League pennants, both world records. Their pinstripe swag is a symbol of "making it" across the globe. Yet some 25 years ago, from 1989 to 1992, the Yankees were a pitiful team at the bottom of the standings, sitting on a 14-year World Series drought and a 35 percent drop in attendance. To make the statistics worse, their mercurial, bombastic owner was banned from baseball. But out of these ashes emerged the modern Yankees dynasty, a juggernaut built on the sly, a brilliant mix of personalities, talent, and ambition.

Historia
In an area of Houston known as the Heights, boys had been going missing for years, but it was the peace-and-love 1970s, so police just called them runaways. When the truth was uncovered, and police - and the rest of Houston - realized the boys had become victims of notorious American serial killer Dean Corll, Houston recoiled in horrified shock. Residents realized that they had not only become the site of the most grisly mass murder in Texas history, but the worst mass murder in all of US history.

Historia
In this book Satter tells the story of the apartment bombings and how Boris Yeltsin presided over the criminalization of Russia, why Vladimir Putin was chosen as his sucessor, and how Putin has suppressed all opposition while retaining the appearance of a pluralist state. As the threat represented by Russia becomes increasingly clear, Satter's description of where Russia is and how it got there will be of vital interest to anyone concerned about the dangers facing the world today.

You could hear the narrator swallowing his saliva into the microphone. Constantly. I wish he would have turned his head away. It was distracting and took away from an otherwise informative, although not shocking, book.
