A beautiful ode to books and reading
Revisado: 07-11-23
I absolutely loved this book. I usually only rate a book and leave no review because although I love words and reading, I have a hard time expressing myself with my own words. This book is everything I love about reading. Books have been my lifeline throughout my life, and this book is an ode to that. After I was widowed and after I lost my daughter, books helped me not just survive but reconnect with life. I am forever grateful there are gifted authors who are able to take us on journeys.

When she suffers a serious illness, Leo copes by doing what he knows best – researching and writing about his wife’s life. But as he starts to unravel the truth, he discovers the woman he loves doesn’t really exist. Even her name isn’t real.

my favorite narrators but still horrible
Revisado: 08-07-22
I was so excited to listen to this book because I love these two narrators. But I really did not enjoy this book. The choices Emma made seemed so foreign and Leo is so self centered and determined to feel sorry for himself. I won't say more than that and chance a spoiler but Leo had to be one of my least favorite characters.

Historia
Growing up on the Navajo Indian Reservation, David Crow and his siblings idolized their dad. Tall, strong, smart, and brave, the self-taught Cherokee regaled his family with stories of his World War II feats. But as time passed, David discovered the other side of Thurston Crow, the ex-con with his own code of ethics that justified cruelty, violence, lies - even murder. A shrewd con artist with a genius IQ, Thurston intimidated David with beatings to coerce him into doing his criminal bidding. David's mom, too mentally ill to care for her children, couldn't protect him.

So bad!
Revisado: 11-24-19
I very rarely write reviews but this was so horrible I had to. The only thing this book would be good for is as an insomnia treatment. I only listened to about 1/4 of the book and have no desire to even go and read the end to see what happens, which I sometimes do with a bad book. I just could care less that's how bad this book is. If I could give if zero Stars I would.

Historia
Slough House is a dumping ground for British intelligence agents who've screwed up cases in any number of ways - by leaving a secret file on a train or blowing a surveillance. River Cartwright, one such "slow horse", is bitter about his failure and about his tedious assignment transcribing cell phone conversations. When a young man is abducted and his kidnappers threaten to broadcast his beheading live on the Internet, River sees an opportunity to redeem himself.
