So much more depth than than the movie. A Spendid study of man's struggle with his Ego. At any point, either of the protagonists could have ended the destructive behaviors thier Pride leads them to commit. The story ages very well, for being written in the early 70's. The Narator is easy to listen to.

He opens with a very funny drunk joke that I was surprised that I hadn't heard. Clarence tells his own story, his drinking and how he came in contact with his sponsor Dr. Bob. He talks about his early sobriety some of which qualifies as AA history. How the Cleveland contingent of the Akron Oxford Group broke away because of its many Catholic members and the need for a group made up solely of alcoholics and their families.

After the movie was released the original audio book version vanished.
This is still well worth a listen.
Douglas Adams was such a fantastic wordsmith.

BJ Harrison does a fine job. Cilla Harrison, not so much.
The 2 diaries are not interwoven as I'd hoped. And Cilla's reading sounded just that, like reading. No emotion or inflection.
Seemed more like father ~ daughter than husband ~ wife.

A must listen.
What else is there to say ?
Written when Samuel Clemens was so disillusioned with so called "civilized" human behavior and our belief in a "Loving" Creator who was obviously just as flawed as our unquestioning faith in Him.
Surely Blasphemous at the time of his death.
Unfortunately, just as poignant today. Showing that the more we advance as a species, the more the we stay the same.
Wonderfully read.

Can't believe that I wasted a credit on this collection. I should have definitely sampled it first. My only issue, and it's a big one, is the Narrator. Absolute Rubbish !!! Stick with the Jonathan Cecil series, and you'll be much happier.
