Historia
The history of the Boston Tea Party is a hidden one. Why? Since it was a clandestine operation, all sorts of rumors and legends grew up around the event—many collected decades after the American Revolution had ended. At its core, however, the night of December 16, 1773, when colonials dumped tea from British ships into Boston Harbor, was more than a fight over tea and taxes. It was a struggle over the very nature of democracy and self-governance.

In 2010, the BBC and the British Museum embarked on an ambitious project: to tell the story of 2,000,000 years of human history using 100 objects selected from the museum's vast and renowned collection. Presented by the British Museum's then director Neil MacGregor, each episode focuses on a single object - from a Stone Age tool to a solar-powered lamp - and explains its significance in human history.

Great introduction to major World History themes
Revisado: 05-05-22
You can get this podcast for free online, but I'm still giving it 5 stars here because it is absolutely wonderful. I appreciate that audible includes titles so that I can listen again to my favorite parts. It really makes me want to go back to the British Museum. I wish there were more books like this .... for Chicago Museum of Natural History, for example.

Historia
What do you really know about the fight against slavery in America? We’re all familiar with the Underground Railroad and the Emancipation Proclamation, but the fight against slavery was not some sudden movement that sprang up in the middle of the 19th century. Resistance from the enslaved started on the western coast of Africa in the 15th century and continued as the institution of slavery was codified in America, culminating with the War between the States.

By Far the Best Great Course in my Collection
Revisado: 06-17-21
I've been waiting for years for Great Courses to include African American history and this offering was worth the wait! Bell is one of the leading scholars in the field and his delivery is as good as the content of each lecture. I hope he comes on board to offer more topics or more on this one.

I thought the selections were well chosen and listened to them over and over again. I looked in vain all over the internet for transcriptions of the letters. Though I own Writer at War, only small parts of these news articles are in Grossman's notes.

Revisado: 12-19-16
Would you listen to The Sword of Summer again? Why?
No, next time I will buy the hard copy only.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The shape-shifting girl Sam because she evolves from mysterious to warm and loyal.
Would you be willing to try another one of Christopher Guetig’s performances?
No, he is not a good reader.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, my reaction was that I could not believe the narrator was so horrible. After all, Rick Riordan is a best selling author. Where's the Boston accent?
