Historia
The Soul of Capitalism examines how the greatest wealth-creation engine in the history of the world is failing most of us, why it must be changed, and how intrepid pioneers are beginning to transform it. Best-selling author William Greider analyzes how our relentless pursuit of unprecedented affluence has eroded family life, eaten away at our sense of personal and professional security, corroded our communities, impoverished our spiritual lives, and devastated our natural environment.

Excellent Critique of Modern Power Structures
Revisado: 02-04-04
In this well-read audio, Greider takes on the formidable task of analyzing the relationships between capitalism, democracy, and societal wellbeing. By reexamining even the most familiar institutions, he identifies a number of elements (both large and small) that have produced unintended negative consequences. In a work of this nature one expects a modest dose of pessimism... However, just as each issue seems hopelessly entrenched in modern society, Greider identifies a number of people and organizations have already begun to address the root causes. The beauty of this book is found in the author's ability to keep things in perspective, yet leave you inspired and confident in our capacity for steady advancement.

Historia
This controversial statement about the benefit of hallucinogenic drugs from the author of Brave New World was first published in 1954, but its ideas remain the topic of debate even today. Listen and judge for yourself as Aldous Huxley reveals his personal experience with mescaline and the connection between altered consciousness and spirituality. Huxley says, "Religion combined with mescaline could be God's special gift revealing the workings of the divine Spirit."

Interesting and Enlightening
Revisado: 01-17-04
Thanks to the mid-century vilification of drug users, hallucinogens have inherited a misrepresentative social stigma. Huxley offers the untainted point of view of an open-minded man encountering peyote for the first time. This yields a unique commentary because he describes the positive / negative effects on perception and body chemistry in way that would no longer be accepted in America's biased culture. His experiences have an amazing correlation to Eastern descriptions of enlightenment and allow one to glimpse new ways of seeing the world without actually imbibing a drug. This is definitely worth reading if you appreciate unorthodox perspectives.
