Historia
McManus shows that encountering peace does not occur by accident, but rather by artful intention. The Way of the Warrior is a call to decisiveness, self-examination, and the pursuit of spiritual wholeness. Through the ancient biblical practices of humility, focus, ownership, clarity, strength, and vulnerability, he guides listeners to a deeper understanding of their inner workings and provides the guidance they need to establish peace and tranquility in their homes, neighborhoods, communities, and even the world!

At first it seemed as though I was invited back into weekly catechism. The introduction and early content contained almost enough religious rhetorical fluff, that challenged a decision of “should I stay or should I go now?” The book is well written. The core information is well presented from a teaching/learning perspective. However, I didn’t know Erwins background as a preacher, and leader of a religious institution. Most of his performance seems genuine. Equal parts seems like a scripted performance of yearning of his own, to pull at the strings of your own heart. As a recovering Catholic, 15-10yrs ago, I wouldn’t have continued past the first 5 minutes. I even fast forwarded about 5-10 minutes of the early chapters, to see if Jesus had left the building. He doesn’t, but takes a seat in the corner, as though to watch if you are listening. Overall, a good listen, that I would recommend for anyone walking a diligent path to social prowess and self~mastery.

Why we think it’s a great listen: A performance so poignant, we gave Bronson Pinchot (yes, Balki from Perfect Strangers) our inaugural Narrator of the Year award.... In the monsoon season of 1968-69 at a fire support base called Matterhorn, located in the remote mountains of Vietnam, a young and ambitious Marine lieutenant wants to command a company to further his civilian political ambitions. But two people stand in his way.

Spectacular and enthralling.
Revisado: 02-24-21
The descriptive scenarios in Matterhorn, made me feel like I was watching the entire content of the book from under an invisible cloak. The wave of emotions personally experienced, was unlike anything I had ever felt from having a book read to me. Bronson nailed this performance for me. It felt as though he really took on the expressions and mannerisms of the characters. Having not previously known a lot about, or having any in-depth look into the Vietnam war, this was a pretty good portrayal of where to begin. I snickered. I laughed. I got emotional. I cheered. I got pissed. I cried. Karl Marlantes dropped me on an LZ, received by Bravo Company, right in the thick of things, and I can’t thank him enough! Really enjoyed the unabridged edition. “Only the shadows change!” And no one wins in war.

Dee Brown's eloquent, meticulously documented account of the systematic destruction of the American Indian during the second half of the 19th century uses council records, autobiographies, and firsthand descriptions. Brown allows great chiefs and warriors of the Dakota, Ute, Sioux, Cheyenne, and other tribes to tell us in their own words of the battles, massacres, and broken treaties that finally left them demoralized and defeated.

Revisado: 02-02-21
There have been many hours listening to, and reading historical works. Never have I indulged in a book so much. Grover Gardner’s performance was superb. And I sense that if I were to read “Bury my heart at Wounded knee”, I would most likely be listening to the voice of Grover, in my head. This writing brought up many different emotions for me. Mostly, the intense amount of repugnance towards the US govt and military forces actions of the day. Great listen!

Historia
When Michael Pollan set out to research how LSD and psilocybin (the active ingredient in magic mushrooms) are being used to provide relief to people suffering from difficult-to-treat conditions such as depression, addiction, and anxiety, he did not intend to write what is undoubtedly his most personal book. But upon discovering how these remarkable substances are improving the lives not only of the mentally ill but also of healthy people coming to grips with the challenges of everyday life, he decided to explore the landscape of the mind in the first person as well as the third.

Revisado: 11-05-20
The content seemed packed with some valuable information into the world of psychedelics and the uses of and for. Probably could have done without a few of the personal stories, and would have liked to have heard more about the logistics. Entertaining to an extent, but seemed more like filler. Would be good for someone interested in experimenting with psychedelics for both recreational and medical purposes.

Wallace Stegner's uniquely American classic centers on Lyman Ward, a noted historian who relates a fictionalized biography of his pioneer grandparents at a time when he has become estranged from his own family. Through a combination of research, memory, and exaggeration, Ward voices ideas concerning the relationship between history and the present, art and life, parents and children, and husbands and wives.

I enjoyed this book immensely. Reading 1 classic, and/or 1 of the "top 100" of all time is & has been a yearly goal of mine, for quite some time now. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys movies more so without the appeals of Computer Generated Graphics. I use this analogy, because in my opinion, it seems a lot of today's "writers" have gone the same route in being overly descriptive. Just my opinion.
Overall, the Angle of Repose is almost like listening to some ones journal from long ago. I imagined it moves right along at a pace parallel to societies during that era.

A beneficial once over
Revisado: 11-22-16
Some very informative topics brought to my attention. Thankful to be able to add them to my memory bank, and will be putting them in to practice. Some of the information brought forth was, I feel, just the same ancient old practices expressed & passed on to fit a different culture, religion & the guidelines there of. Good for both the beginner & well practiced alike. However, being one that consumes a lot of like material & holds on to what would be in my opinion, great reads, this one I would find easy to pass along. Good for a once over tho. I would say 3.5 stars overall.

Revisado: 09-10-16
No depth in the lecturers delivery. The clapping soundtrack at the beginning & end of each lesson, solidified for me that even 1.5x speed was not even fast enough to keep my attention. Preaching to an empty room. Some good tidbits of info with way to much filler.

Looking to some of the world's greatest thinkers and inspiring leaders, Brooks explores how, through internal struggle and a sense of their own limitations, they have built a strong inner character. Labor activist Frances Perkins understood the need to suppress parts of herself so that she could be an instrument in a larger cause. Dwight Eisenhower organized his life not around impulsive self-expression but considered self-restraint.

Revisado: 08-28-16
I liked that this book included the history & background of folks I've known about but did not know what chiseled them in to fine sculptures of greatness. In each story was woven the lessons we each could carry forth. I also feel the book finished out stronger than I had anticipated. Personally, I thoroughly enjoyed the listen & will revisit my many "bookmarks".

As our holistic view of the world grows and we become more aware of personal and collective energy, our level of perception is transforming from something singular - the physical form - to a greatly expanded awareness that includes intuition, past and present, right and left brain, and heart and body. As our perceptive ability evolves, we must unlearn and relearn the principles of how we live, create, and grow in order to be successful in the rapidly transforming reality of the Intuition Age.

Continuing to want to not only work on yourself but have a better understanding of others?, this would be a good place to start. 2016- not the new age, but the new way. Hope you enjoy

Historia
Despite our best-laid plans, life can often be difficult, disappointing, and stressful. Consequently, when things don’t go right, we are often left in a state of emotional chaos, dealing with feelings like anger, anxiety, frustration, and doubt, which can cloud our perspective and negatively affect the way we live our lives. But in this inspiring book, Phillip Moffitt shows us that we need not be at the mercy of our emotions. By cultivating a responsive mind rather than a reactive one, we can achieve a state of emotional clarity.

May resonate for others, but for me, I feel probably 2-3 hrs could have been shaved. Definitely will want to listen on 1.25. I struggled through the last 3-4 chapters, but did listen to chapter 2 again as recommended after completing. The "mindfulness" movement is, I feel, the next "green" movement or doing yoga for the sake of being able to say "I do yoga to". Unless you know why you do or want to, you'll wind up right where you started. Ahhhhh, which brings to "mind"; "wherever you go, there you are". Much better choice. Although if you are just beginning to stir, this could be a good start. Godspeed
