Historia
It is a society that is, officially, a paradise. Superior to the decadent West, Stalin's Soviet Union is a haven for its citizens, providing for all of their needs: education, health care, security. In exchange, all that is required is their hard work, and their loyalty and faith to the Soviet State. But now a murderer is on the loose.

Russian mystery with unbelievable ending.
Revisado: 04-17-11
This book was something I was hoping would be as good as the movie Citizen X, where a under appreciated Russian cop sets out against all odds to solve a murder that the state would prefer not to acknowledge.
Alas, it starts out with a good mystery but quickly loses its focus, and by the time the author tries to bring it back full circle, the motivation is so laughable that I was hoping it was a double fake, but it wasn't.
I was interested for about 1/2 the book and then it completely fell apart for me.

The only real saving grace is the speaker's narration, as the book tends to make little sense. The characters, while enjoyable, seem to make decisions completely out of character and the author seems to be able to wipe it away with a sentence. It's like a summer movie that has the glitz and glamour, but none of the substance.
