Terrible
Revisado: 03-31-25
I had read that this series was amusing and fun. Umm, no. Very dull and stupid is more like it. How does someone live in your attic, never eat, never go to the bathroom, never make a noise? Just a plain old dumb book. It's hard to believe it was published! And I didn't care for the narrator's high voice, which barely differentiated between characters. Yuck.

Terrific!
Revisado: 03-08-25
I read all these books ages ago and just loved them. They are so funny! Lorelei King absolutely knocked the narration out of the park. She's improved these books immensely, and I didn't think they could get any funnier. This is the perfect mix of story and narrator, and it really couldn't be any better.

Not Good
Revisado: 12-28-24
The narrator has such an off-putting voice that it's actually quite remarkable. Is it nasal? High pitched? A bit of both. The stories were not very good either. Too many undeveloped characters and plot twists right at the end of the books. I'm done.

Historia
Relentless phone calls interrupt the peace of a warm August morning in Three Pines. Though the tiny Québec village is impossible to find on any map, someone has managed to track down Armand Gamache, head of homicide at the Sûreté, as he sits with his wife in their back garden. Reine-Marie watches with increasing unease as her husband refuses to pick up, though he clearly knows who is on the other end. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning.

Disappointing
Revisado: 11-25-24
I was so happy when the new book came out, but I was sadly disappointed. Another Gamache against the corrupt powers that be book! This book had too many characters, none of which were developed, a complicated plot which was ridiculous and I couldn't wait for it to end. It had none of the charm and originality of the other Three Pines books.
The narrator was awful. The cadence of his speech was so monotone and redundant that I kept having to replay parts because he lost my attention. Plus, his voice was very grating and you couldn't tell one character from another. Where is Robert Bathurst?
If another book comes out on this absurd topic with the same narrator, I doubt I will bother with it.

Very different from each other, they are nonetheless linked by a shared history and a single shattering secret. Spectacular
Revisado: 10-31-24
This book took me to the edge of what I can tolerate in terms of fright and anxiety. It was also beautifully written. Part of me wished it would end, and part of me wished it would never end. Thank goodness it's only book one of a trilogy.

Historia
A woman lies dead, shot and bleeding. Behind her body stands a large old manor house, her house, and now her son's. She ran the rural estate as a minor fiefdom, all had to subjugate themselves to her will, or they were put out of their homes and ejected from the community. Lady Compton was hated, nobody mourned her passing, but her murder brought suspicion and dismay to the closely allied village, and it brought the police into their midst.

Bad Narrator
Revisado: 10-01-24
The story was fine, although it did drag in spots. The descriptions of the mountains in Wales were very beautiful though.
However, the narrator was pretty bad. His Welsh accent came and went for no discernible reason. Some of the characters had a Welsh accent for a bit and then suddenly it would disappear snd they sounded Irish. He didn't change his voice for the characters at all, so you had no clue who was speaking. There has to be someone better for the job.
