Historia
Recent art school graduate Bekah thought she’d hit the jackpot: an unknown relative died, and she inherited a small fortune and a huge house in the mountains of North Carolina. Trey Howard, the lawyer who handled the estate, is a handsome man in his 20s and they hit it off right away - and soon become more than friends. Bekah expected a pleasant year to get her head together and have a romantic fling. Problem is, the house is full of junk...and siblings she didn’t know she had are willing to kill her for it.

Had a lot of promise, but fell flat for me.
Revisado: 02-21-15
I wasn't super impressed with this one. The premise of inheriting a magical house was pretty cool, but the characters felt pretty contrived to me. Becca was unbearably smug. The author had her use obscure words constantly so that the other characters could revel in her brilliance. I found that obnoxious. Honestly her character seemed like she was trying too hard to be edgy. I wasn't a huge fan of the narrator either. Her southern accents were awful. Think of how Bill Compton says Sookie's name on Trueblood. And then imagine one of the main characters sounding like that every time he spoke. The last thing that really bothered me was that the narrator gave Becca's gay friend a stereotypically effeminate voice. Not all gay men talk that way. That was just offensive. The listeners could have picked up that he was gay from what the author wrote. No need to reinforce homophobic stereotypes. I don't think I'd listen to this narrator again.

Historia
As soon they are released, Amanda Quick’s romances shoot to the top of best seller lists. With over 22 million copies of her books in print, she is one of today’s hottest authors. Set in Regency-era England, Mischief offers a sparkling mixture of wit and intrigue that has become Quick’s trademark. Beautiful, headstrong Imogen Waterstone has recruited the darkly infamous Earl of Colchester to help her seek revenge for the murder of her best friend. As they set a trap for the villain, Imogen and Colchester fearlessly encounter the threats and dangers that come their way.

Not my cup of tea...
Revisado: 01-03-14
What disappointed you about Mischief?
The plot was utterly ridiculous with some smut thrown in for good measure. I thought this might be a murder mystery/romance kind of like Tasha Alexander's Lady Emily series. This book falls seriously short. Imogen assumes she knows who killed her friend, and proceeds with a harebrained plan to ruin him. I found it hard to believe that Imogen was such an incredible scholar when she was constantly making stupid decisions and assumptions. Also, why did Amanda Quick need to make up an ancient civilization? This time period was the birth of archaeology- surely she could have modeled that part of the plot after a real society? Britain was obsessed with Egypt at this point in history! Maybe she was too lazy to do the research...
Has Mischief turned you off from other books in this genre?
No, but it has turned me off of Amanda Quick...
What three words best describe Barbara Rosenblat’s voice?
British Kirstie Alley
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Mischief?
All of the sex scenes. They were so poorly written that I laughed through them. Actually, I thought this book could have been 100-150 pages shorter.
Any additional comments?
I wouldn't waste a credit. There are better regency romances out there.

Maybe this is just one you need to actually read
Revisado: 11-13-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Maybe I would have enjoyed it more if I had read it instead of listened to it.
What could Patrick Weekes have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Lock's true motives for robbing the official are only revealed towards the end of the book. I had a hard time caring about the characters or the robbery because it seemed like the only motive was greed. I feel like the plot was just poorly executed.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her voice really got on my nerves. I wanted to slap her every time she spoke as the unicorn. I won't be buying any more books that she narrates.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disapointment that I wasted $8 and 12 hours.

“As I remember, I had just woken up from a nap when I decided to create the universe.” So begins Alan Lightman’s playful and profound new novel, Mr. g, the story of Creation as narrated by God. Bored with living in the shimmering Void with his bickering Uncle Deva and Aunt Penelope, Mr. g creates time, space, and matter - then moves on to stars, planets, consciousness, and finally intelligent beings with moral dilemmas.

I daydreamed all of the way through it....
Revisado: 04-11-13
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If they book had followed the creations more. Just hearing the Creator talking with his annoying Aunt and Belhor was boring. I also found it very repetative. Way too much description at times. I just could not keep my mind on it!
Would you ever listen to anything by Alan Lightman again?
Probably not.
What aspect of Ray Porter’s performance would you have changed?
He was fine. He did the best he could with what he was given.
What character would you cut from Mr g?
The Aunt was insufferable.

Zombies and Egyption Mythology
Revisado: 03-25-13
What made the experience of listening to Undeadly the most enjoyable?
It was a fun listen. There is a lot of teenage slang, so much that it almost seems like the author is trying too hard- but I found that more entertaining than annoying.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Undeadly?
When Molly first meets Annubis.
Have you listened to any of Rebecca Gibel’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I don't think I have listened to any of her other performances, but I liked her. I would be willing to listen to her again.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
When Molly is mature enough to admit that she made a mistake, and faces the consequences.
Any additional comments?
I thought this book was a really fun listen! I loved all of the Egyptian mythology and I thought it was a really unique twist on zombies. Sometimes the author tried too hard with all of the teenage slang, but the main character is a 16 year old girl. I found it more amusing than annoying. I liked Molly and didn't find her to be immature. I tend to think that most YA heroines are a little too mature for their age. Molly is no Katniss or Tris, but she is very like able. I am excited for the next in the series.

Am I the only person that hated this book?
Revisado: 03-07-13
What would have made Shatter Me better?
A less lyrical style. The author has a metaphor for every occasion- and while some of them sound pretty, most of them make no sense whatsoever. I would bet that she used at least five metaphors on every page. It ended up sounding like a 13 year old girl's fan fiction.
What was most disappointing about Tahereh Mafi’s story?
I despise nothing more than a weak heroine! If you loved Bella from Twilight, then you will love Juliette. She derives all of her self-worth from her boyfriend, and does nothing but whine and act like a kicked dog.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
I normally love Kate Simses- she was a fabulous narrator for the Matched series. In this case however, her voice was too immature. Her voice lends itself well to the dreamy, lyrical style of writing, but it's just not believable that Juliette has been in prison for almost a year.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
It ended. Other than that, no. I would have returned it, but I bought this a year before I ended up listening to it. At least I got it in a 5.95 sale...
Any additional comments?
The scratch-out sounds when Juliette is writing in the diary are distracting. Also, listening to an entire page of Juliette writing over and over, "I am not insane. I am not insane, I am not insane, iam not insane, I am NOT insane" was absolutely obnoxious.

Disappointing considering all the great reviews
Revisado: 02-14-13
What disappointed you about Driving Mr. Dead?
You know how when you were in elementary school how your teachers made you "outline the plot" of a story? Well this book had no rising action and certainly no plot climax. I just kept waiting and waiting for something to happen! I read a lot of Paranormal Romance, and this just felt like a watered-down romance novel with vampires thrown in.
What was most disappointing about Molly Harper’s story?
The whole thing was just so worn out. There are a million books out there featuring a snarky protaganist with an authority figure problem who attracts trouble like a magnet. The trouble she attracted was all perfectly mundane and boring- such as vandals drawing on the hood of her car, and a hotel clerk shredding the wrong credit card. I guess my expectations were too high.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The narrator didn't do great male voices.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Disappointment. I will be returning this one.
Any additional comments?
Definitely don't waste a credit.

Good Story, Annoying Narrator!
Revisado: 03-08-12
Would you listen to A Tale of Two Castles again? Why?
I will never listen to this book again. I completely agree with the reviewer who said that the narrator's voice is annoying. She gives the main character a mangled, cockney sounding accent. This seriously detracted from the story. She also never quite settled on a single accent. Sometimes she pronounced words one way, then later she would pronounce them differently. It was terrible.
