Historia
Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

Rich in detail and highly imaginative.

Would you listen to Wicked again? Why?
I am not sure. It was a little slow moving but it could have been that I had little time to really devout to listening to it. On the other hand, it is unlike anything I have read or listened to before.
What did you like best about this story?
Droll humor and sympathetic character.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed this book a great deal but I was pretty busy so I mostly listened to it at night, so I think it seemed longer and slower paced than it was.

Historia
The moment artist Riana Evans sees the dilapidated mansion in Wales she longs to buy it, despite its unhappy past – 20 years ago, five maids died there in mysterious circumstances. So she is delighted when the house’s elderly and eccentric owner sells it to her for a pittance. The house’s “ghosts” prove good for business – inspiring her paintings and providing welcome atmosphere for a series of successful ghost-spotting weekends.

Part cozy, romance, historical, part ghost story
Revisado: 02-24-12
What did you love best about House of Shadows?
The setting and central character. Interesting balance between cozy and wariness.
Which scene was your favorite?
Conversations with the the old women in the blue room.
Any additional comments?
Iris Gower presents us with a novel that is part cozy, part romance, part historical and part good old ghost story. It is set in Wales just after the end of WW II and is based on an existing historic home. It is a light but enjoyable story. The characters are engaging and there are a number of mysteries. Not all loose ends are tied up but that took little away from the story and may have been because it was her last novel. I am not big on romances but I am tempted to check out more from this author as a relaxing guilty pleasure. Recommended for those who are not overly critical. Minor nit - the narration was fine but was light on good Welsh accents.

There are places that hold in the traces of evil, houses that become legendary for the mysteries and secrets within their walls. Harrow is one such house.

Couldn't finish it. Dreadful narration & weak plot
Revisado: 03-20-11
The narrator detracts from a story that needed all the help it could get. I listened to more than half of it before giving up. The dialog was wooden and never once did was I frightened nor did I care for the characters. Early on I knew the plot was in trouble when the main character was disinherited by his father and a little later on was driving the car he inherited from is father. Really don't bother. I had just finished Crota by Owl Goingback and that book had everything going for it that this book lacked. Try that if you want something dark and different.
