This books plot could have been fit into 2 paragraphs. It's a long drawn out pointless trival that ignores any real responses that would have been made. A character is pointlessly lost and that'd pretty much the TLDR. Don't waste a credit or money on this one.

A sometimes fun ripoff of expeditionary force.

As others have stated in these reviews. Mr Charles the talking gun is a carbon copy of Skippy. Additionally towards the end of the book thankfully a very racist Nagatha comes along called Veronica.

The story is ok, at times since it's narrated by the same person and Charles was made to sound like Skippy and wick sounds just like Joe bishop and they both have the same voice inflections and lines then at times it feels you are listening to a expeditionary force novel with the same supporting cast. More carbon copies of expeditionary force but different names and accent.

While the writing can be juvenile at times and the start of the novel not making any sense at all. ie why are you going to open a portal to the unknown without some nukes or ordinance on hand or a way to scuttle or abort what your doing. Basic prep 101.

So other than the at times disbelief of reality it does come off as an entertaining novel. If you are waiting for your other books to get narrated and you have absolutely nothing left to listen too then this book isn't bad.

A fantastic wrap up.

You could end the series here and it feel concluded but clearly more awaits! This has got to be one of the most darkest books I have read. A very heavy hand of political antigovernment is evident. Political screaming aside though it concludes the current story Arc very well and with common sense and leaves the story open for another Arc in the series.

all common sense has left

while I liked the first book despite obvious flaws of common Sense the second book departed it completely. if people do not act as a person would then it breaks all emmersion. it's like writing your common IT nerd loves taking a hot poker to his face and everyone else does. I could list specific examples but sometimes it's best to just let it go.

So many themes play in this novel trilogy but I carry away the lesson of immortality and how daunting and humble it is compared to the equal vastness of space.
