Historia
A healing touch. A hideous face. A looming curse. As the ugly twin to a perfect sister, Princess Laidra lives her life in the shadows - until her parents offer her as bait for a giant serpent. Her escape attempt leaves her shipwrecked on a secluded island with only one inhabitant: Prince Calen, who lives under a curse. If anyone looks upon him, he turns into a giant serpent. Speaking to him in the darkness, Laidra sees past the monster to Calen’s lonely soul, and she determines to free him from the magic’s hold.

Great story; mediocre performance
Revisado: 05-16-24
I found the narration monotone, sleepy, and annoyingly grating for the male voices.
Good story, though. I've been bingeing H.L. Burke for a few days and really enjoying her other stories, read by other narrators.

The Supervillain Rehabilitation Project is a character-driven, action-packed superhero series with light romantic elements, snarky humor, and a focus on family bonds.

Great balance between fun romp and serious feels!
Revisado: 05-09-24
Heidi Burke spins a story really well, using just enough cheese to suit the genre, while delivering a heartfelt, deep, exciting story with characters that feel real.
I also love how pro-family the series is, with slice of life moments centered not only on finding love, but also maturing into marriage and children.
I appreciate how often the characters avoid stereotypical communication errors that drive so many tv shows into "idiot plot" territory, too. Rather than drive the plot forward with a stupid miscommunication, they just talk things out, and then trouble still manages to find them and create some nice drama without all the reader frustration.

Historia
This book is about the great moral issues underlying many of the headline-making political controversies of our times. It is not a comforting book but a book about disturbing and dangerous trends. The Quest for Cosmic Justice shows how confused conceptions of justice end up promoting injustice, how confused conceptions of equality end up promoting inequality, and how the tyranny of social visions prevents many people from confronting the actual consequences of their own beliefs and policies.

Excellent
Revisado: 07-17-21
I thoroughly appreciated Sowell's description and explanation of "cosmic justice," and the potentially dangerous results of pursuing it blindly.
