Historia
Earth failed. In a desperate bid to escape, the spaceship Enkidu and its captain, Heorest Holt, carried its precious human cargo to a potential new paradise. Generations later, this fragile colony has managed to survive, eking out a hardy existence. Yet life is tough, and much technological knowledge has been lost. Then strangers appear. They possess unparalleled knowledge and thrilling technology–and they've arrived from another world to help humanity’s colonies. But not all is as it seems, and the price of the strangers' help may be the colony itself.

Another Triumph - A journey in space, time, and imagination. if all those were spaces inside the Gordian Knot...
Revisado: 01-06-24
In each previous book in the children of time, the author takes us on a grand adventure into a rich and expensive narrative universe. each previous installment presented us with a new twist. a new dimension of exploration, peril, and discovery.
the final installment is in fine form with its fellows. It twists and turns it's strange narrative full of surprises, tragedy, hope, and magic into a truly unique tail unhindered by such paltry limits as time and space and identity.

Historia
George Orwell depicts a gray, totalitarian world dominated by Big Brother and its vast network of agents, including the Thought Police - a world in which news is manufactured according to the authorities' will and people live tepid lives by rote. Winston Smith, a hero with no heroic qualities, longs only for truth and decency. But living in a social system in which privacy does not exist and where those with unorthodox ideas are brainwashed or put to death, he knows there is no hope for him.

A well deserved classic, chilling and thought provoking
Revisado: 11-15-23
For me the success of the story can be found in one insidious little detail. You find yourself scheming, doubting, and doublethinking along with the characters. it's twists and turns are at once predictable and startling. After all the end is known, just the when and how need to be filled in, but that doesn't mean you aren't taken for a ride.
Not exactly light reading but well worth the investment if you have the space to dive into such a brutal and suspicious world of hate and power.

A fabulous continuation of the saga
Revisado: 12-07-22
The great conflict rages though the pawns are only seldom aware. Remember what was missing? Those who are lost can sometimes be found again. Titanic power and petty hatred, love and camaraderie all mix and mingle to give you book 2 of this delightfully original series.
Jemisin's world is detailed, beautiful and horrific while Miles' performance gives you every nuance and inflection of emotion, strategy, intrigue, and revelation.
if you enjoyed book 1 don't hesitate to fall upward into this world yet again.

loved the world building and characters. the plot has lots of great hooks and surprises but sadly fails to capitalize on them in the end. A fun read just to be in the world. fantastic performance by the reader and the music really adds to the mood

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Historia
This is the way the world ends...for the last time. It starts with the great red rift across the heart of the world's sole continent, spewing ash that blots out the sun. It starts with death, with a murdered son and a missing daughter. It starts with betrayal, and long dormant wounds rising up to fester. This is the Stillness, a land long familiar with catastrophe, where the power of the Earth is wielded as a weapon. And where there is no mercy.

An original fantasy world full of life and detail
Revisado: 06-08-22
Im always fascinated when an author can create a really original take on super powers/magic and build it into a whole living world complete with mystery, politics, racism, love, commerce, technology, culture, and the rest.
Jemisin draws you in, shocks you, makes you laugh, hate, wonder, and reel. You feel the raw power of the earth and the tenuous, fragile, and complicated human connections. While the story is driven by those human connections you also get the real sense that titanic forces, ancient and powerful, are at play. While we are focused on individuals, their story is a tiny drama on a raft in the river that is the greater arc.

Historia
Annie Collins is back! Becoming an overnight celebrity at age 16 should have been a lot more fun. Not helping matters: she’s the only kid in school with her own pet spaceship. She would love it if things found some kind of normal, but as long as she has control of the most lethal - and only - interstellar vehicle in existence, that isn’t going to happen. Worse, things appear to be going in the other direction.

The juxtaposition of a 19 year old girl, her pet space ship, a government analyst, a sentient idea or two and the whole menagerie of other great characters creates a quirky and lighthearted story that also digs deep into fantastic Sci Fi world building without marinating you in it.

Historia
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

In his inimitably entertaining and wonderfully witty style, he takes apart famous phrases and shows how you too can write like Shakespeare or quip like Oscar Wilde. Whether you’re aiming to achieve literary immortality or just hoping to deliver the perfect one-liner, The Elements of Eloquence proves that you don’t need to have anything important to say - you simply need to say it well.
