It’s not as good as her first book, but worth one’s time to read/listen. I found the scathing, yet quite realistic, telling of the student-experience in the humanities in higher education to be very accurate. Every English and creative writing professor should take a listen and learn a lesson from her experiences. Good for you Stephanie for shining a light on the blatant misogyny of the “esteemed” professorate, lack of humanity in the humanities, and picking apart the true values of the illiberal left that haunts the halls of academia.

The author included thorough and exhaustive research to follow the money trail linking just about every conservative movement in the last 40 years to just a few families whose effort to maintain their wealth has changed the political discourse in our country in their favor. If you have less than 3 billion in assets, you should assume you aren't in their club and any policies their shaped-discourse professes is not in your best interest.

Would you listen to The Sixth Extinction again? Why?

Yes, to take notes! So informative and interesting. The author paints a fascinating picture of her travels and how these places have changed in such a short period of time.

What did you like best about this story?

This story is for all of us. At least all of us who like to breathe the air and live on this planet.

Which scene was your favorite?

When visiting the islands, you can visualize the place so clearly through the narrative.

Any additional comments?

I truly mean what I say that everyone should read this book.

Would you consider the audio edition of Boys Adrift to be better than the print version?

I did not read the print version, so I have no comparison.

What other book might you compare Boys Adrift to and why?

I haven't really read anything like this before, but I think that many of the suggestions and conjectures are well supported with research and evidence. Having read a lot of other research-oriented, academic work, this work reflects solid foundation.

Which character – as performed by Malcolm Hillgartner – was your favorite?

This really doesn't fit since this is a non-fiction book.

What did you learn from Boys Adrift that you would use in your daily life?

I learned much about how boys process emotional experiences and what seems to fit their needs the best. I worry about my son at school in the ever-increasing pressure for testing. This book give practical, well reasoned steps to help boys in their academic lives.

Any additional comments?

I truly found this book to be quite helpful and well-researched. I trust the conclusions and found that many of the observations of the author confirm much of my own experience as a teacher and a parent. I think it's a very well-written, well-researched work and suggest it to all of my friends and colleagues who are parents.

If you could sum up Coming Clean in three words, what would they be?

This is a poignant memoir of a troubled past. The author provides some mystery to the ailment of this family in the beginning, which is quite entertaining.

What did you like best about this story?

The story is very honest and without placing blame or promoting the negative images we see from reality shows like Hoarders. The author humanizes this mental illness through her very personal experience while maintaining the dignity and love in her own family.

Have you listened to any of Kimberly Rae Miller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

The reader is straight forward and delivers the emotion of the work without melodrama.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was particularly moved at the author's description of her childhood in a hoarder-home, having some inkling that there may be something different about her family but not fully realizing what it was until later.

Any additional comments?

This is a great listen. Having lived with a hoarder, it was particularly cathartic to have the author humanize the issue and those with this mental illness.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I unequivocally recommend this book to all my friends, and have bought copies for a choice few. I've read this book twice and listened to the audiobook. I think its one of the most important works examining our place in the modern ecological world to be written in the last 50 years. There is obviously a deep, undying relationship between human and canine that has gone grossly under-researched given that of all the domesticated animals, the dog seems to be the only animal to which we continue our domesticated relationship into urban and suburban areas. It deserves more thought and attention because it's not the insight into the canine that is important, it is the insight into ourselves that holds the key.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Charlie, of course!

Have you listened to any of George K. Wilson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

This is the only book of his to which I've listened, but I've read others.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There are so many ah-ha moments in this book, but the section where the author draws a parallel into the shrinking of the human brain in evolutionary history coinciding with the proportional growth in the canine brain, that gives chills.

Any additional comments?

I would go so far as to recommend this book for high school science teachers looking for a tangible way to teach about evolution, which captivates and maintains student interest as well as involves students in a very personal way (most will have dogs in their homes).

Who needs fiction like The Walking Dead

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I absolutely recommend this to everyone. It is an in-depth examination into the history we don't learn in our textbooks in school. The author transports you to the early 20th century and guides you through every aspect that made the 1919 Influenza Pandemic possible.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Great Influenza?

For years, I have taught my students that Woodrow Wilson died of a stroke. No longer. The author's evidence is compelling enough that I researched this fact myself (formerly I just accepted what was written in most history books). For all intents and purposes, Woodrow Wilson died of complications due to influenza.

What three words best describe Scott Brick’s voice?

Smooth, mesmerizing, compelling.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Especially moving was the discussion of how the bodies piled up so quickly, emergency responders and city officials either too sick or too afraid to clear the streets, family members too ill to even remove bodies of their loved ones from their homes. The generation of orphans that the pandemic left is staggering.

Any additional comments?

As someone who rather enjoys dis-topian sci-fi as well as the armageddon-zombie-disaster genre, this book totally delivers. Except it's non-fiction. Made me want to stock up on hand sanitizer and move forward with my doomsday pantry.
