I enjoyed listening to this book with my wife. We will try the Autumn Apple Salad recipe first. The recipes are well read by Becky White, who sounds like a professional radio personality on NPR. Listening to a recipe works for me because of my short reading attention span: I can even mess up the recipe for Jello. I remember my mother in law sitting by the radio in her kitchen taking notes daily as the rural radio station lady read recipes to the farm wives. This book reminds me of that fond tradition.

The recipes are very tempting, but some of the ingredients are somewhat exotic. I will substitute what I have on the shelf to approximate them. I put the book on my tablet so that I can back up and replay the recipe as I assemble the ingredients. I got a little flour on my touchscreen.

I was drawn to this book by the power of it's title "The Power of Dignity" My personal experience in the workplace had already taught me the importance of employee dignity, and how it influences profitability. It was my hope that this book would give me a tool to reinforce the conventional wisdom that dignity is by far the strongest incentive to keep quality employees in the workplace. In my case, Pete Geissler was preaching to the choir.

Pete Geissler relates a number of episodes about how good bartenders and waiters can help a company be more profitable by remembering your name and your regular drink. True, but not convincing to the hard asses in the boardroom.

The most positive comment I have is that Becky White is very easy to listen to as a narrator. I strongly recommend her to any authors looking for voice talent.
