Amazing characters and deep emotions and themes.

This series is truly amazing. I found it on a whim and it has become one of my favorite fantasy series of all time. I am DESPERATE for the third book to come out on Audible. Please, if you are on the fence about this series give it a shot, it is worth your time. The only negative I will give it is that the narrator for the second book is not as good as the one for the first. She does a fine job overall, but compared to the soothing, older voice of the first book it felt like a step down. Overall, though it is still a 5/5 book experience. Audible, please release part III!!!

Historia
In this definitive history of the modern Arab world, award-winning historian Eugene Rogan draws extensively on Arab sources and texts to place the Arab experience in its crucial historical context for the first time. Tracing five centuries of Arab history, Rogan reveals that there was an age when the Arabs set the rules for the rest of the world. Today, however, the Arab world's sense of subjection to external powers carries vast consequences for both the region and Westerners who attempt to control it.

Great comprehensive history
Revisado: 07-03-18
Definitely recommended as a comprehensive history of the Arab Middle East from the beginning of the Ottomans until the Arab Spring. And mostly told from an Arab point of view and using Arab sources, which, for those of us raised in the US education system, is not a viewpoint we get to hear about often, if ever. As with most historical books it can be a bit dry at times, but it is very informative and a great aid in contextualizing the modern Middle East.

There are better...
Revisado: 01-31-17
The performances were good, although they stumbled occasionally (Doctor Impossible's menacing laugh was more silly than anything else). The characters were ok, though pretty much stock superheroes, but that's kind of the point in a meta-commentary like this. Where the book really lost ground, though is in the writing. It's packed with interminable monologues about past events and internal thoughts, and the few times things actually happen they are hard to follow. Some of the fights just kind of peter out like the author forgot they were happening, and locations and times change with no warning. The "Surprise Ending" can be seen coming from halfway through the book, even for someone like me who never manages to guess plot twists ahead of time.
If you're looking for a something to put on while driving you can do worse, but don't expect anything too impressive. There are much better superhero commentaries out there, like Watchmen, Kick Ass, or even Mystery Men. Unfortunately this may be the best one available as an audiobook.
Overall pretty average.
