Terrible
Revisado: 02-09-23
This book was terrible. Very poor writing - simplistic, excessively and unnecessarily foul mouthed. This writer cannot write. An embarrassment.

Historia
More than 15 years after the events of The Handmaid's Tale, the theocratic regime of the Republic of Gilead maintains its grip on power, but there are signs it is beginning to rot from within. At this crucial moment, the lives of three radically different women converge, with potentially explosive results. Two have grown up as part of the first generation to come of age in the new order. The testimonies of these two young women are joined by a third: Aunt Lydia. Her complex past and uncertain future unfold in surprising and pivotal ways.

As satisfying as The Handmaiden’s Tale
Revisado: 11-19-19
Different but every bit as satisfying as its prequel, The Handmaiden’s Tale. It answered so many of the questions left after THT. Thank you Margaret Atwood for your gifts!

Not as good as The Brothers K
Revisado: 08-30-18
I really loved The Brothers K but by this book by Duncan was a letdown. There was much too much emphasis on fly fishing and the spiritual journey of the protagonist was handled in such a trivial way that is was off-putting. The narrator was versatile and quit good with some of the humorous parts of the story but much too contrived with the more serious. A disappointment.

Entertaining
Revisado: 03-06-18
Girl Unknown was entertaining - a clever and intriguing story with plenty of twists and turns. The prose were very nice and the performance well done. Nothing to write home about but solid entertainment.

Historia
When you listen to this audiobook, you will make many assumptions. You will assume you are listening to a story about a jealous ex-wife. You will assume she is obsessed with her replacement - a beautiful, younger woman who is about to marry the man they both love. You will assume you know the anatomy of this tangled love triangle. Assume nothing. Twisted and deliciously chilling, The Wife Between Us exposes the secret complexities of an enviable marriage - and the dangerous truths we ignore in the name of love.

Historia
Anna Fox lives alone - a recluse in her New York City home, unable to venture outside. She spends her day drinking wine (maybe too much), watching old movies, recalling happier times...and spying on her neighbors. Then the Russells move into the house across the way: a father, mother, their teenaged son. The perfect family. But when Anna, gazing out her window one night, sees something she shouldn't, her world begins to crumble. And its shocking secrets are laid bare.

Gripping
Revisado: 02-08-18
An excellent psychological thriller! Being an old film buff, I especially loved the references to all the black and white film noir. And the chapters devoted to the incident which lead to Anna’s agoraphobia were harrowing.
Excellent read.

Historia
With courage, grace, and powerful insight, bestselling author Kristin Hannah captures the epic panorama of World War II and illuminates an intimate part of history seldom seen: the women's war. The Nightingale tells the stories of two sisters, separated by years and experience, by ideals, passion and circumstance, each embarking on her own dangerous path toward survival, love, and freedom in German-occupied, war-torn France—a heartbreakingly beautiful novel that celebrates the resilience of the human spirit and the durability of women. It is a novel for everyone, a novel for a lifetime.

The performance was terrible
Revisado: 01-13-18
Upon reflection I wish I had read The Nightingale instead of listening to the audio version. The story Ms Hannah wrote was amazing. A beautifully written novel about love, family, survival, guilt and sacrifice in war torn France under Nazi domination. But the narration by Polly Stone came off as trite; at time the different voices and accents sounded comical which was certainly not appropriate for such weighty subject manner. I believe the characters of this novel would garner great interest but with Ms Stone’s narration it was difficult for the reader to feel invested.
