Very short which is fine since it was free. The tips weren't bad but I think one of the chapters was repeated and the editor didn't take out a cough in the reading. Otherwise not bad.

Symptoms of Being Human is about a young teenager named Riley Cavanaugh. Riley not only deals with the normal issues of being a teenager (high school and bullies), Riley has to deal with their dad being a Congressman for Southern California and anxiety attacks.
Now, I know you noticed I said “their'' when referring to Riley. This is because Riley (on top of everything else), is Gender Fluid. In simple terms, being Gender Fluid means sometimes Riley sometimes feels like a girl, and sometimes they feel like a boy. As they refer to it in their own words, their gender is like a dial. The needle sometimes points closer to “girl” and sometimes points closer to “boy”. I'll be posting a more in-depth blog post about non-binary genders on Friday.
Riley, from the advice of their counselor, starts an anonymous blog under the username “Alix”. This blog unexpectedly explodes in popularity after Riley gives a suicidal trans girl advice that saves her life, but sends her back home where she's almost beaten to death by her father.
Riley now not only has to deal with the issues mentioned earlier but now they have to deal with the guilt of their blog causing that girl harm. Its mentioned in the story that the girl is not only alive, but she also thanked Riley for the advice. Even though the girl is ok with everything and even encourages other trans people to come out, Riley still feels guilty.
This would all be overwhelming if it weren't for Riley's two new friends, Solo and Bec.
Riley tries to stay anonymous and in the closet as long as they can but can Riley manage to stay that way?
Symptoms of Being Human is the first book I've ever read with a non-binary main character. As a non-binary writer/person, this was refreshing. The only problem I had with this book is the lack of “they/them” pronouns. Using “they” are a pronoun is extremely common for non-binary people (this isn't the ONLY pronouns used, but the most common).
This book was written by a cis male (which is another problem I had, but he at least did a decent job representing the community). The other issue I saw was the main character reinforces the stereotype that non-binary people are teenagers who run a blog (all too familiar to the stereotype of non-binary people being SJW Tumblr users). I'm 28 years old, married with a child, and proudly non-binary.
If you're non-binary or want to change up your usual cis, white male reading list, give Symptoms of Being Human a try.

CONTENT WARNING: Use of the word Gypsy and spoilers from the first book.

What would you do if someone killed your father? Sofia decided to take revenge.

Sofia is the daughter of Jamus from the first Unforgivable book. When her dad is murdered, Sofia takes it on herself to avenge his death. Along the way, she meets a group of Gypsy’s who, in exchange for some debt collecting, help her get a special herb that allows Sofia to sleep without dreams.

Sofia suffers from PTSD and needs a special herb to allow her to sleep. She needs her sleep if she's going to gain strength to kill the king of the land, the man responsible for her father’s death.

Unforgivable Part 2 was written very well and had much more memorable characters than the first book. Sofia felt like her father’s daughter and the other side characters felt fleshed out.

The only issue I had with this book (just like the first), was the length. It was even shorter than the first book and the majority of the book took place in the B plot. By the time we made it back to the main plot of the story, it was almost over. This made the A plot feel very rushed.

The main villain, in my opinion, had very little personality, and the one scene that was put in to make him feel evil was 1. Too much and 2. Kind of out of the blue. The rest of the characters were fine but this ended up feeling like less of a victory when Sofia finally got her revenge.

I can recommend Unforgivable Part 2 to anyone who read the first book and enjoyed it, or anyone who needs a quick read and enjoys dark themes. The audio-book is only $3 on Amazon.

Unforgivable by James Fuller is a fiction novel set in Medieval times, about a man named Jamus seeking vengeance on his murdered family.

The book follows Jamus, a farmer, in his search for his daughter and the men who killed his family to kidnap her. He soon meets Barbra, a maid for one of the targeted men, who joins him on his journey.

I felt this book had some strengths and weaknesses. Some of the strengths go to the writing. It was very well written and had me wanting to know what was going to happen next.

Another strength was the voice acting for the audiobook. The deep, gravelly voice added to the dark and dirty feel of the story itself.

Some of the weaknesses would have to go toward the writing as well. It was very well written but I noticed a repetition of phrases throughout the book.

The length of the book was also very upsetting. The audiobook was only 3 hours long and from the description on Amazon, it looks like the book itself is only 97 pages long. For the genre, and the story subject (revenge and a journey), it could have easily gotten into the 100,000-word count, which is the usual word count for a story of this type. The major thing that factors into the word count is the lack of a “B plot”. The whole story is following the “A plot” without touching anything else. I'm not giving spoilers but there were a few scenes that were added that could have been a good “B Plot”, but were sadly cut short and felt a little unnecessary.

There are 2 other books in this series, but with a little work, a book of this length could have had all 3 books in one.

I did like the book but I wouldn't buy it for $13 on Amazon for a paperback, not at this length. The audiobook is only $3 and seems a little more appropriate for the length.

I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys revenge stories and needs a quick read. CONTENT WARNING FOR R*PE and PEDOPHILIA.

Going into this book I didn’t know what to expect. I’m not usually a fan of this time period in writing, but I was pleasantly surprised. The characters are very well thought out and the story was an interesting twist on the kinds of things you see written in this time period. I enjoyed this book overall quite a bit.
The only problems I had were the book was too short. There’s an A plot but it didn’t really feel like there was much of a B plot. There were some places I felt could be fleshed out a bit more.
The ending bothered me a little bit but (without giving spoilers), I think that was the point. It didn’t go the way you expected and it was a real life version of events. Meaning, it was realistic for to end the way it did.
The narrator felt a little stale, but seeing as how the author was the one reading it and not a professional voice actor, he did a great job. You get used to it as you continue as well. It didn’t bother me for long.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book and recommend it to anyone who enjoys real life books set in later time periods.
