Spend some time with this book - maybe a few times. It’s packed w good content.
The performance on Audible was a little difficult to follow because of the speed. Fortunately, we can use the speed controls to make it work.

Deeply profound. Simultaneously simple. Don’t just read this book. Experience it and bring yourself along for the ride.

You’ll feel smarter at the end than you do in the beginning. Humor along the way helps. A little Pavlovian mind conditioning is inserted for good measure. I expect to hear little bells in my mind when the correct answers appear in front of me on the exam.
This book was worth the investment of money and time.

We have found the enemy, and the enemy is us. Problems in our society are both bigger and smaller than our politicians can describe or our press can cover. They are more nuanced than many people have the patience to wade through. About the only thing we can all agree with is that everyone is affected by our collective decisions.
This book is an attempt to explore some of the causality and the impact of our common problems. It also offers some solutions towards the end.
It touches on topics like the increased anxiety and suicide rate among our youngest members of society. It talks about the polarization of our political discourse, our parenting styles, and even volunteerism and service as ways to inoculate ourselves against “us vs them” mentality.
My take aways are:
1. that we’re not all so different from one another that we can’t draw a bigger circle around the smaller circles and figure out how to find common ground and a way forward as a result.
2. A well meaning culture of safety has disabled - hopefully temporarily - our human ability to adapt and become resilient. Like the bird hatching from its shell that needs the struggle against the shell to become strong and survive, so too our children need some risk and adversity to strengthen into resilient adults.
3. We’re not beyond hope, but we’ve got work to do.

This author gets to the point quickly and doesn’t grind your ear off with fluff and filler. Chapters are punchy. Advice is dense. You’ll be done quickly and may have some notes worth reviewing.
The content is solid. Much of what’s in this book will feel like a refresher to anyone who’s been consulting, but there are gems here worth the price and time invested.
Experience is talking in this book. If you are exploring a consulting career or have an interest in polishing an already established business, give it a listen. I’m glad I did.

If you wonder if you can do the JMT or not, if you would like to walk along with a couple that has lots of real experience on this trail, join Inga. She’s not a one and done either. Her ongoing support of the JMT community is real and value added. Pure gold from her to you.

If you’re a broad generalist, a deep diver into a specific subject, or a parent wondering about how the heck your kid is going to survive when they seem to wander aimlessly, this book will give you hope and insight. Learn how many of the greatest contributors in the world have been failures for decades, how extreme specialization and cultures that support this approach at the expense of “high flyers” contributed to the Challenger explosion, inhibit problem solving, and drive kids out of youth sports.

This show is evergreen. Episodes from 2017 are still relevant today. The show is not just about soccer, but about the impact we as parents, players, and coaches can have on the next generation of young adults by using a youth sports platform, volunteerism, allowing and enabling mistakes, and catching kids doing stuff right!
